Job description

The Virtual Patient Companion provides continuous remote observation of patients across the Cleveland Clinic enterprise from a centralized monitoring location. Using a telemonitoring system, they observe multiple patients (up to 15-20 at a time) to ensure safety and prevent at-risk behaviors. The companion's first response is to verbally redirect the patient as needed, and they promptly alert nursing staff through the alarm system or Vocera communication when intervention is required. This role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and adherence to patient confidentiality and hospital policies

A caregiver in this role works a day/night rotation from 6:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Comply withestablished corporate and departmental policies, procedures,objectives, quality assurancemethodsand safety codes.

  • Demonstrate compliance with licensing,regulatoryand accrediting agency provisions asrequired.

  • Demonstrateappropriateand professional communication behavior toward patients,customersand coworkers.

  • Cooperate withmanagement and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.

  • Demonstrateanunderstandingofandproficiencyinthe use of the NAMETeleSitterSolution software.

  • Maintain visual observation.

  • Verbally redirect patientsoveradigitaltwo-way audio device in patient rooms.

  • Immediatelysummonthe nursing staff if the patientrequiresassistance.

  • Participate inthehand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arrivingtomonitoringarea and upon completion of shift assignment.

  • Arrange meal break times and inform staff before leaving the monitoringstationso relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.

  • Provide patients with explanations as necessarywithout counseling or providingopinions.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • HighSchool Diploma/GED

  • General knowledge of hospital settings

  • Canmonitorup to 15 patients on one screen at one timeandprioritize simultaneous situations

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset

  • Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes

  • Able to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff

  • Basic computer operation skills

  • Basic Microsoft windows experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Previousexperience in a hospitalenvironment

  • Previousclinical experience

  • Previousdirectpatientcare experience

  • Nurse Assistant/MedicalAssistantCertification

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods.

  • Lifting and carrying weights of up to 10 pounds from low to high levels is occasionally required and is an essential function of the position.

  • Grasping and reaching are frequently required handling demands.

  • Mental concentration and working with precise limits of accuracy are important.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $15.25

Maximum hourly: $19.60
