Job Description

The Client Group of Insurance Companies is currently seeking a Labor and Employment Paralegal to join its House Counsel team in Houston, Texas. Energetic individual who will be working with attorneys on labor and employment matters, including responding to demand letters, charges of discrimination and litigation in state and federal courts. Drive the discovery process by preparing, assembling, and serving discovery demands and responses and correspondence in an accurate and timely manner with direction and guidance of the firm's attorneys.

Follow up with our clients and adversaries for compliance with our discovery demands and court orders relating to discovery, drafting letters and motions where appropriate. Prepare reports to claims/clients summarizing discovery responses and summarizing records for attorney review. Keep current with court rules, regulations, and procedures on e-filing. Ensure all data entered in our Prolaw system is entered accurately and updated regularly.

Collaborate with and assist the attorneys in providing quality legal representation in discovery, correspondence, motions and trial preparation. Prioritize assignments and meet all statutory and court ordered deadlines by maintaining an accurate and updated calendar system. Develop proficiency in legal research/writing sufficient to improve and maintain your skills and knowledge. Coordinate trial preparation by communicating with your team concerning trial preparation activities.

Competencies/Skills

Excellent customer service skills as well as a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications is essential. The ability to navigate and effectively manage a case management system is required. Strong analytical skills as well as superior written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Strong time management and organizational skills with an ability to work in a high-volume office and team environment are essential. The candidate should be a highly self-motivated individual, possess high initiative and have the ability to work independently. Candidate must be able to multi-task, adapt to changing priorities and possess the skills necessary to work under pressure. The ability to perform legal research is preferred. Experience in ProLaw is preferred, but not a requirement.

Education/Experience

Three to five years of Paralegal work experience is strongly preferred but not required. Experience in employment law would be preferred. Paralegal Certificate or Degree in Paralegal studies is preferred but not required
