Optometric Medical ScribePosition Overview
Our growing eye care practice is seeking an organized, patient-focused Optometric Medical Scribe to support providers in a busy clinical setting. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the patient experience by assisting with visit documentation, coordinating clinical workflow, and ensuring accurate medical records.
The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, comfortable working directly with patients and providers, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities throughout the day. Primary Responsibilities
- Partner with providers during patient encounters to accurately document examination findings and treatment plans.
- Enter patient histories, symptoms, assessments, diagnoses, and recommendations into the electronic health record system.
- Assist in maintaining efficient patient flow and visit schedules throughout the clinic.
- Prepare examination rooms and verify that necessary equipment and supplies are readily available.
- Document orders for medications, referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up care as directed by the provider.
- Support patients by explaining clinical procedures and providing visit-related instructions.
- Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with privacy regulations.
- Assist with clinical support functions and patient care activities when appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with providers and staff to promote exceptional patient service and operational excellence.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support clinic operations.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong computer proficiency and data entry skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Professional attitude with a strong customer-service mindset.
Preferred
- Previous experience in medical scribing, healthcare support, patient care, medical assisting, or clinical documentation.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems.
- Understanding of medical terminology and documentation practices.
- Experience working in a physician office, specialty clinic, or healthcare setting.
- Exposure to optometric or ophthalmic patient care.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)
- Certified Paraoptometric (CPO)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent
Work Environment
This position is performed in a clinical office environment with frequent interaction among patients, providers, and team members. Duties may require standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity and manual dexterity are necessary for daily responsibilities.
