Job description

The Epic Principal Trainer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering Epic training programs that 
support successful adoption, optimization, and ongoing utilization of Epic applications across the organization. 
This role serves as the primary instructional design and training expert for assigned Epic application areas, 
ensuring end users receive effective, role-based education aligned with operational workflows, organizational 
standards, and Epic best practices. The Epic Principal Trainer partners with operational leaders, application 
analysts, informatics teams, and project stakeholders to develop training environments, create curriculum, 
facilitate classroom and virtual learning experiences, support go-live activities, and drive continuous user 
proficiency. The Principal Trainer plays a critical role in change management, user readiness, and long-term 
sustainability of Epic system adoption.

  • 3 years of experience in healthcare, clinical, revenue cycle, education, or healthcare technology, required.
  • 1 year of experience developing and delivering adult learning programs, required.
  • 1 year of experience in Epic implementation, upgrade, optimization, or training, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience with instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience utilizing learning management systems (LMS), preferred. 
  • 1 year of experience supporting large-scale change management and technology adoption 
    initiatives, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, health care administration, nursing, clinical informatics, information systems or other related field, required., OR four years of directly related experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement. 
  • Epic Principal Trainer certification in assigned module(s) or ability to attain Epic certification(s) in assigned module(s) within a defined timeframe determined at time of hire.

As part of our selection process, candidates being considered for this position will be required to complete a Sphinx Assessment, which is used to evaluate job-related competencies and determine overall suitability for the role. Successful completion of the assessment is a required component of the hiring process.
 

This position also requires active participation in various phases of the Epic application lifecycle, including but not limited to implementation, go-live support, stabilization, optimization, and system upgrades. Candidates must be willing and able to accommodate the demands associated with these activities, which may include:

  • This position operates in a hybrid work environment and may require a minimum of 25% onsite presence to support operational and business needs.
  • Working additional hours outside of regularly scheduled business hours, including evenings and weekends, as project needs dictate.
  • Participating in on-site go-live and support activities across multiple organizational locations.
  • Traveling occasionally for Epic training, certification, project meetings, or other work-related purposes, including travel outside of the state.
  • Traveling between organizational facilities to provide operational, project, and end-user support.

Candidates should be prepared to maintain flexibility in their schedules to support critical project milestones and organizational operational needs.

  • Designs, develops, and maintains Epic training curriculum for assigned application area(s). Creates and updates lesson plans, eLearning modules, participant guides, job aids, tip sheets, and training materials. Ensures training content reflects current Epic build, workflow standards, and organizational policies. Maintains curriculum through system upgrades, enhancements, and workflow changes. Collaborates with analysts and operational stakeholders to validate training requirements.
  • Delivers instructor-led, virtual, and blended-learning programs for end users. Facilitates new employee 
    onboarding and ongoing Epic education programs. Provides role-based training for clinical, operational, revenue cycle, and support staff as applicable. Evaluates learner competency through assessments, practical exercises, and proficiency validation. Serves as an expert instructor and resource during organizational training events.
  • Coordinates and maintains Epic training environments for assigned application areas. Develops and executes training scenarios, exercises, and workflow simulations. Validates training environment functionality and data integrity. Collaborates with Epic analysts regarding environment refreshes and training build requirements. 
  •  Partners with operational leaders and subject matter experts to understand workflow requirements. Aligns training content with approved operational workflows and system design. Promotes standardization of processes and Epic best practices. Serves as a subject matter resource regarding training impacts of workflow and system changes.
  •  Participates in implementation planning, training readiness activities, and deployment efforts. Supports large scale Epic implementations, upgrades, optimizations, and new module rollouts. Assists with command center operations and end-user support during go-live periods. Provides at-the-elbow support and coaching to end users during stabilization phases. 
  • Monitors training effectiveness and learner performance outcomes. Gathers feedback from participants, leaders, and stakeholders to improve educational programs. Identifies opportunities to improve user adoption, proficiency, efficiency, and workflow compliance. Recommends enhancements to training materials, delivery methods, and learning strategies. 
  • Ensures training content aligns with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and patient safety standards. Adheres to Epic training methodology, curriculum standards, and instructional design best practices. Maintains documentation supporting training compliance and audit readiness. Supports organizational initiatives related to accreditation, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement. 
  • Assists in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  •  May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.
