Position Overview

The Adjunct Faculty - Inclusive Practices MLL Instructor serves as the primary instructional authority for SEI Endorsement coursework within a residency-based teacher preparation program. This role carries full responsibility for designing curriculum, instructional coherence, assessment, and alignment to Massachusetts DESE SEI Endorsement requirements.

The Adjunct Faculty member prepares residents and in-service educators to effectively instruct Multilingual Learners (MLLs) through rigorous, culturally sustaining, and linguistically responsive teaching practices grounded in real classroom contexts. Coursework integrates DESE SEI categories, WIDA standards, and a practice-based, equity-centered residency framework.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum Design

  • Lead facilitation of the final eight course sessions within an established course framework ensuring coursework is aligned to MA DESE requirements, including:

    • Second Language Acquisition

    • Foundations of Sheltered Content Instruction

    • ESL Curriculum and Instruction

    • Sheltered Content Instruction

    • Assessment of Multilingual Learners

  • Model instructional practices that support MLLs across content areas, including:

    • Language and content objectives

    • Academic language scaffolds

    • Differentiation and culturally sustaining pedagogy

Residency Integration

  • Design assignments that require residents to:

    • Analyze student language data

    • Plan and implement SEI-aligned lessons

    • Reflect on practice using classroom-based evidence

  • Support residents in applying SEI strategies directly to their residency classrooms

  • Collaborate with Clinical Teachers, Coaches, and Program Staff to ensure coherence between coursework and clinical practice

Assessment & Licensure Alignment

  • Design and assess DESE-aligned performance tasks

  • Provide timely, actionable feedback to support growth toward licensure and classroom readiness

  • Monitor and support candidates' progress toward SEI-related licensure benchmarks

Professional Collaboration

  • Participate in required program meetings, calibration sessions, and professional learning

  • Align instruction to program values, including equity, anti-racist practice, asset-based approaches to MLL instruction, and continuous improvement
