About the Role
Laurel Springs School is seeking an experienced and student-centered French & German Teacher to support our Upper School program for the academic year. This is a fully remote teaching position designed for an educator who is passionate about world language instruction and thrives in a virtual learning environment. The teacher will support students in grades 6-12 across multiple proficiency levels, including advanced coursework, through a combination of asynchronous instruction and live, synchronous interactions, providing personalized guidance, feedback, and academic support.
This role requires strong communication skills, fluency in both French and German, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with students and families in a remote setting. Teachers at Laurel Springs support a roster of students in primarily asynchronous courses while providing live instruction, academic coaching, and individualized support as needed. This role is highly collaborative, working closely with the World Languages Department, cross-functional school teams, and the Academic Department Chair, and includes involvement in curriculum and program development.
What You'll Do
  • Deliver high-quality online instruction through a combination of asynchronous coursework and live virtual teaching
  • Teach French and German across Upper School grade levels (6-12), including intermediate and advanced courses
  • Support language acquisition through speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities tailored to virtual learning
  • Monitor student progress and provide timely, personalized, and constructive feedback on assignments
  • Proactively identify learning gaps and implement targeted interventions to support student mastery and course completion
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school staff via email, phone, and video conferencing
  • Hold virtual office hours, one-on-one student meetings, and parent conferences
  • Provide academic coaching, encouragement, and individualized support to a roster of students
  • Contribute to curriculum development, course updates, and program enhancements
  • Participate in school-wide meetings, professional development, and community events
  • Support or lead language-related virtual clubs, workshops, or enrichment opportunities
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and engagement
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in French, German, World Languages, Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • Fluency in both French and German required
  • Active teaching certification in French and/or German preferred
  • Experience teaching world languages at the middle and/or high school level, including advanced coursework
  • Experience with online teaching, virtual instruction, or educational technology strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of language acquisition strategies and instructional best practices
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students and families
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across courses and student groups
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while collaborating with a distributed team
  • Passion for education and commitment to student-centered learning
Work Environment and Schedule
  • Fully remote position within the United States
  • Full-time, 12-month role
  • Availability required during standard business hours (Eastern Time)
  • Participation in live, synchronous sessions, student appointments, and school events
