Job description

Title: Data Governance Consultant
Duration: 6 Month Contract to Hire
Job Mode: 100% Remote
Note: Ability to obtain DHS Public Trust clearance.
US Citizens are preferred
Our client is seeking a Data Governance Consultant to support a federal agency in advancing its data governance capabilities. This role will focus on configuring and enhancing data governance platforms, developing integrations, and creating custom workflows to meet business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and optimize components of data governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, DataHub) to align with agency needs.
  • Define and maintain metadata models, domains, communities, and business rules.
  • Facilitate integration testing across pipelines, applications, and systems.
  • Lead metadata migration and remapping activities, including developing crosswalks between platforms.
  • Perform data profiling to identify new, repurposed, or deprecated variables.
  • Ensure interoperability of governance assets (communities, domains, relationships, workflows).
  • Collaborate with data engineers to support metadata ingestion using SQL, Python, and APIs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience with Collibra, DataHub or similar open-source Metadata, Data Catalog or Data Governance platforms.
  • Ability to do SQL joins and queries to ensure data is flowing correctly.
  • Deep understanding of data governance principles, including master/reference data management, data lineage, business process management, and data quality analysis.
  • Experience with data normalization/harmonization and system migration activities (remapping/crosswalking).
  • Ability to translate business rules into metadata structures and governance policies.

Desired Skills
  • Familiarity with pgAdmin, Python, and VS Code.
  • Experience using Dagster.
  • Knowledge of data mesh concepts.
  • Experience with governance tool migrations.
  • Understanding of configuration and change control best practices.
  • Knowledge of BPMN 2.0 (nice to have).
  • Experience working with federal clients (DHS preferred).
  • Familiarity with AWS.
  • Ability to lead strategic planning initiatives and foster technology adoption.
