What is virtual banking?

Virtual banking refers to financial services provided primarily or exclusively online, without the need for customers to visit physical bank branches. Virtual banks offer a range of services, such as opening accounts, transferring funds, paying bills, and applying for loans, all through digital platforms like mobile apps and websites. This model often provides greater convenience and sometimes lower fees compared to traditional banking, as overhead costs are reduced. Security and customer support are typically managed through secure online channels and call centers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual banking specialist?

To thrive as a Virtual Banking Specialist, you need a solid understanding of banking products, financial regulations, and customer service, often supported by a finance-related degree or relevant experience. Familiarity with digital banking platforms, CRM software, and secure communication tools is typically required. Strong soft skills like active listening, problem-solving, and clear remote communication help build client trust and resolve issues efficiently. These skills ensure effective online service delivery, compliance, and customer satisfaction in a technology-driven financial environment.

How does a virtual banking professional typically collaborate with clients and internal teams?

As a Virtual Banking professional, you will regularly interact with clients through digital channels such as chat, email, and video calls to address their banking needs, resolve issues, and help them navigate online services. Collaboration with internal teams—including IT, compliance, and product management—is essential to ensure that customer concerns are addressed efficiently and that digital banking platforms are secure and user-friendly. You’ll play a key role in gathering feedback from clients and relaying it to the appropriate teams to drive improvements. This role requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and a customer-centric mindset to succeed in a fast-evolving digital environment.

Job description

TRANSACTION BANKING

Our mission is simple: provide a global transaction banking platform that is nimble, secure, and easy for clients to use. We have delivered a modern, digital-first transaction banking platform to serve GS' varied client base. Our business combines the strength, heritage, and expertise of a 150-year-old firm with the agility and entrepreneurial spirit of a tech start-up designed to solve some of the most complex operational needs in the industry.

We aim to help our clients achieve Working Capital efficiency gains by optimizing their short-term liquidity needs and simplifying their Cash Management operations. We do so by delivering a best-in-class digital solution that helps clients manage their liquidity movements, foreign exchange, and payments, enabling international treasury operations and commerce. We're a team of diverse Treasury and Payments specialists helping our clients solution and build for the future.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Transaction Banker covering the TMT sector, you will be responsible for deepening relationships with our technology, media, and telecommunications clients, acting as a trusted advisor for their specialized cash management, liquidity, and digital payment needs. The candidate will work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders, both in the Transaction Bank and the broader GS franchise-particularly partnering with our industry-leading TMT Investment Banking division.

A TMT Transaction Banker uses deep technical and sector expertise to solution customized cash management offerings (including API-driven banking, real-time payments, and multi-currency global clearing) by owning the entire lifecycle of the client journey: qualifying, prospecting, solutioning, and driving revenue opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive Sector Revenue: Own and drive revenue opportunities for Transaction Banking products across a dedicated portfolio of TMT clients, ranging from high-growth SaaS and e-commerce platforms to established media conglomerates and telecom giants.
  • Deliver Specialized Treasury Solutions: Design and deliver creative, customized treasury solutions leveraging expertise in high-volume digital payments, API integrations, real-time liquidity management, and complex cross-border FX clearing.
  • Address TMT-Specific Challenges: Partner with clients to optimize working capital tied up in capital-intensive infrastructure (e.g., 5G/6G rollouts and data centers) or to streamline complex billing and reconciliation processes associated with subscription and digital-first business models.
  • Cross-Franchise Collaboration: Partner closely with internal stakeholders across the TMT Investment Bank, Corporate Derivatives, Risk, and Debt Capital Markets to deliver "One Goldman Sachs" to some of the world's largest and most complex multinational technology and telecom entities.
  • Industry Thought Leadership: Deepen and broaden knowledge of TMT industry trends, regulatory shifts, and the competitive landscape, positioning GS as a thought leader in digital treasury innovation.
  • Lead Global RFPs: Lead complex, global RFP processes and host regular in-person and virtual payments and treasury advisory sessions with senior client stakeholders (CFOs, Treasurers, and Heads of Payments).

Qualifications

  • Education: Strong academic record with a Bachelor's Degree, equivalent, or above required.
  • Experience: 7+ years' experience in client-facing corporate banking or transaction banking roles, with a proven track record of managing relationships. TMT sector experience preferred.
  • Technical Treasury Knowledge: Deep understanding of modern treasury technology, including ERP/TMS integrations, API-based banking, real-time payments (RTP), and automated multi-currency cash pooling.
  • Complex Solutioning: Proven ability to solution for high-volume, low-value payment flows (e.g., marketplaces, app stores, streaming platforms) as well as large-scale capital management.
  • Franchise Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with an extensive array of partners both within Transaction Banking and across the broader GS Investment Banking Division.
  • Risk Management: Effective risk manager capable of working with first and second lines of defense to ensure robust compliance, fraud prevention, and risk frameworks are in place for high-velocity digital transactions.
  • Communication & Leadership: Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders (C-suite) both internally and externally.

Mindset: Self-motivated, highly diligent, and thrives in a fast-paced, lean, and entrepreneurial environment
