Job Description:This recruitment will be used to fill 1 part-time (average of 10 hours per week) Design & Media Assistant for SOL LGBTQ+ Multicultural Support Network within Diversity & Cultural Engagement (DCE) at Oregon State University (OSU).
Department Overview
Diversity & Cultural Engagement (DCE) is a student-centered department dedicated to fostering identity-affirming community, belonging, and leadership development. Through Cultural Resource Centers, educational programming, and collaborative partnerships, DCE supports students from historically underrepresented communities while advancing equity, learning, and connection across campus.
Position Summary
The Design and Media Assistant creates materials that promote Diversity & Cultural Engagement's events. Working collaboratively with professional staff and campus partners, the Design and Media Assistant contributes to projects from concept development through final
production.
While professional staff maintain overall decision-making authority and accountability, Design and Media Assistants play an active role in creative implementation, problem-solving, feedback, and execution of ideas. This position provides a supportive, student-centered learning environment where Design and Media Assistants develop technical skills, professional communication practices, and a strong design portfolio while contributing meaningfully to campus engagement and student success.
Position Duties
Administrative & Center Operation Support
Staff Cultural Resource Center during scheduled shifts, providing consistent front-desk coverage
Respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries with professionalism, confidentiality, andappropriate judgment
Maintain organized media files and shared drives
Attend andactivelyparticipateinrequired trainings and weekly student staff meetings
Follow university and departmental policies, procedures, and workflows
Follow university and departmentalprotocolsregardingcommunicatingwith media requests and correspondence
Update the event and resource boards in your CRC
Design & Creative Production
Create, edit,andfinalizedigitaland print design materials, including social media graphics, digital signage, email newsletters, posters, and flyers
Apply OSU brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and inclusive design practices across all deliverables
Proofread and review designs for accuracy, clarity, and quality prior to publication or distribution
Incorporate feedback from professional staff and campus partners to refine designs
Knowledge of videography and photography basics
Use andcontinuouslylearnupdates for department software and tools, including Microsoft Teams, Canva, Outlook, Adobe Creative Cloud suite or equivalent image editing software, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere or equivalent video editing software
Manage and engage with applicable social media platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, Tik Tok, Threads, etc.
Collaboration & Client Engagement
Collaborate with staff members from Student Experiences & Engagement (SEE), Diversity & Cultural Engagement (DCE), and any other project stakeholders to clarify project goals, audiences, and timelines
Demonstrate active listening and clear communication when discussing design concepts with non-designers
Contribute ideas and creative solutions during project planning and brainstorming processes
Maintain a professional, responsive, and service-oriented approach when working with clients

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

Required Qualifications:
Minimumcumulative GPA of 2.0
Enrolled as a part-time student (minimum 6 credits)
Demonstrated commitment to personal development, community engagement, and leadership
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Demonstrated time-management and basic project management skills
At least one year of design and media employment, volunteer, or comparable experiencedemonstratingresponsibility and accountability
Knowledge of videography and photography basics
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with communities represented by the Cultural Resource Centers
Ability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, unless otherwise arranged with the supervisor
Preferred Qualifications:
Involvement with underrepresented or marginalized communities on campus
Experience engaging in conversations about identity, equity, and social justice
Knowledge of campus and community resources
Demonstrated self-awareness regarding identity and its impact on different communities
Understanding of issuesimpactinghistorically underrepresented populations
