Job description

Job Description
BHE GT&S has an exciting opportunity as a Network Engineer 1, Network Engineer 2 or Network Engineer 3 at our White Oaks General Office Building location in Bridgeport, WV.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and optimize operational technology (OT) network solutions supporting high availability, performance, and security across WAN, LAN, wireless, and OT environments.
  • Serve as a technical authority for routing, switching, network segmentation, and access design, ensuring alignment with business, security, and operational requirements.
  • Define, develop, and enforce network architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Architect and advance network automation frameworks to reduce manual effort, and improve consistency and resiliency.
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and participate in proof-of-concepts, technical assessments, and vendor selection activities.
  • Provide escalation support for complex or high-impact network incidents, leading root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Monitor network performance trends and proactively identify risks, capacity constraints, and improvement opportunities.
  • Produce and maintain detailed architecture documentation, network designs, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Manage and prioritize network ticket queues and work orders, ensuring timely resolution, appropriate escalation, and clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute network lifecycle activities, including hardware and software refreshes, firmware upgrades, end-of-support remediation, and capacity expansions.
  • Lead the operational execution of network changes, including maintenance planning, change management, validation, and post-implementation review.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Network Engineer 1 and 2 staff, promoting skill development and consistent engineering practices.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers on advanced support engagements, escalations, and strategic planning.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and oversee complex after-hours maintenance activities as required.
  • Perform additional duties and engineering responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
Network Engineer 1:
0-3 years basic experience with voice and data networking, or general telecommunications experience.
Technical skills including programming, installation, configuration, and data base management.
Basic analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, assess business impact, recommend cost-effective solutions, and develop and implement those solutions.
Basic knowledge of current technologies, tools, applications, and vendors.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Network Engineer 2:
At least 4 years telecommunications network experience.
Good understanding of network planning or analysis.
Demonstration of technical knowledge, and a growing knowledge of the company's information systems and infrastructure design.
Network Engineer 3:
At least 8 years telecommunications network experience.
Expert-level understanding of network planning or analysis.
Has held Lead or Technical SME role on major telecommunications projects or operations.
Demonstration of technical knowledge, and a growing knowledge of the company's information systems and infrastructure design.
Advanced enterprise networking fundamentals, including complex switching and routing knowledge, high availability system designs skills, advanced network security design skills, Internet services and protocols knowledge, and advanced network diagnostics capabilities.
Ability to be on-call 24/7 to provide on-site or remote support.
Education (All Levels):
Bachelor (Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Mathematics
