VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS

REMOTE

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Operations (“VPO”) is responsible for building physician partnerships, setting the Division’s growth strategy, and managing the clinical, financial, and operational performance of their Division. Overseeing an approximately $300M operational portfolio, the VPO is responsible for building a strong shared vision for their Division and ensuring they have the supporting people and operational processes in place to drive performance.

Work Schedule: Remote (Nashville, DFW, Chicago, or Atlanta preferably)

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Operational Management:
      • Helps foster a people-centric, success-oriented, accountable company culture.
      • Attracts, recruits, retains, motivates, and leads the operations team.
      • Ensures healthy board governance throughout the Division, participating and supporting board meetings and governance as needed including reporting regulatory issues, ASC industry updates, lobbying efforts, and pertinent health system, physician practice management, and private equity relationship updates.
      • Informs people development, professional growth, and management approach for Division.
      • Responsible for managing Directors of Operations (“DOO’s”) and provides strategic direction to drive operational excellence across the portfolio.
      • Works with the Senior Vice President (“SVP”) to implement initiatives to improve major regional partner relationships and center management across the Division.
      • Coaches and guides DOOs and Center leaders in building successful relationships between AMSURG and its providers.
      • Articulates corporate initiatives to Division and develops enactment plan with DOOs.
      • Responsible for high level oversight and continuous improvement of the following areas with assistance of AMSURG resources:

    • Strategy and Growth:
      • Responsible for development and execution of Division portfolio strategy.
      • Fosters and maintains deep relationships with key heath system joint ventures, physician partnerships, physician practice management MSOs.
      • Develops Division business planning and growth strategy in partnership with the SVP and business development leadership.
      • Works with SVP in supporting and fostering best-in-class Patient-centered-Care.
      • Responsible for identification of new regional opportunities within communities and across payers
      • Owns relationships with physicians and their growth needs.
      • Provides strategic direction and oversight to maintain strong relationships with existing health system joint ventures, physician/physician practices.
      • Supports organic growth and strategic initiatives, driving alignment within Division.
      • Identifies and introduces appropriate new initiatives to expand and grow same store and Division volume and revenue.
      • Supports acquisition due diligence efforts for new center opportunities. Leads DOOs and center leaders to support business development in due diligence efforts to investigate and execute on new opportunities.
    • Customer Relationship Management:
      • Represents the organization with key stakeholders.
      • Fosters and maintains strong physician partnerships.
      • Drives a strong clinician value proposition and Patient-Centered-Care
      • Owns regional physician Division, health system partnerships, physician practice management operations.
      • Sells and influences adoption of new strategic initiatives.
      • Provides AMSURG advocacy updates to provider partners.
      • Active member of Partnership Board of Directors
    • Financial Management:
      • Accountable for Division portfolio financial performance.
      • Responsible for managing DOOs and providing strategic direction to support optimizing financial performance of the region.
      • Develops and maintains understanding of Financial Reporting and operation of assigned DOO geography, including presentations and communications with Lead VPs in development and communication of quarterly forecasting and budget models to AMSURG leadership team.
      • Assist the SVP with Managed Care messaging throughout their Division
      • Reads and abides by the company’s code of conduct, ethics statements, employee handbook(s), policies and procedures and other corporate mandates, including participation in mandatory training programs.
      • Review entire Divisions portfolio, develops Division’s budget and assist assigned ops leads to develop their center level budgets. Responsible for managing and pushing back on portfolio and growth targets.
      • Reports any real or suspected violation of the corporate compliance program, company policies and procedures, harassment, or other prohibited activities in accordance with the reporting policies of the company.
    • Crisis Management:
      • Provides leadership in crisis situations to less senior operations leaders.
      • Assesses crisis situations and leverages appropriate AMSURG resources in resolution.
      • Develops and communicates plan of action.
      • Debriefs with all involved parties upon resolution to determine root cause.
      • Implements plans to mitigate root causes in future using AMSURG resources

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong management skills with the ability to oversee complex projects and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable with presentations to senior management, boards, community Divisions, and physicians
  • Proven track record of taking initiative and driving projects to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and a highly matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning and self-improvement.
  • Proven ability to embrace challenges, learn from feedback, and adapt to evolving situations.
  • Travel Requirement: Willingness to travel up to 60% of the time, with an average travel commitment of 40-60%.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or master’s degree in business, healthcare administration or relevant field, and/or equivalent work
  • Minimum ten (10) years of healthcare operations management experience.
  • Extensive experience leading healthcare operations in a multi-state integrated healthcare delivery system of a minimum of $100M + million revenue of Direct P&L experience.
