Job description

About Us: EvolutionIQ's mission is to deliver state-of-the-art technology that helps insurance claims teams make claims handling more accurate, fair, and efficient, so that more people impacted by injury or illness can continue their lives with dignity and stability. We are pioneers in vertical AI and driving business value from AI applications. As part of CCC Intelligent Solutions, a publicly traded technology company (NASDAQ: CCC) serving the P&C insurance industry, we combine EIQ's AI-native product development with CCC's 40 years of proprietary data and deep carrier relationships. Together, the combined organization serves the largest and most complex insurance carriers in the world, and we are building the next generation of AI-first products for the casualty insurance market. Our team is our #1 priority, and we have been named one of Inc.'s Best Workplaces 3 years in a row and Built In's Best Places to work in 2025 and 2026!
We are currently looking to hire a Vice President of Engineering who is an experienced engineering leader who owns outcomes, not just processes. You've built and scaled high-performing, cross-functional engineering organizations and you know what great looks like at every level of the stack. You're deeply technical, a strong people developer, and you thrive in fast-moving environments where the problems are genuinely hard and the stakes are high.
You will own the entire EIQ engineering organization building AI products for the insurance space across Disability, Platform, Core Infrastructure, DevOps, and potentially other areas. We're building AI-native products where engineers are expected to use LLMs and AI agents as part of their real workflow, not as a novelty, but as a core productivity multiplier. You should be excited about that and model it yourself. This role is based in NYC with regular in-office presence expected alongside much of our leadership team. This role will report to our EVP, Product & Engineering.
What You'll Own
  • Set the technical vision, architecture direction, and org structure for EIQ engineering
  • Partner tightly with Product to execute on the EIQ product roadmap across product lines
  • Hire, develop, and retain engineering talent, from ICs to managers with a consistently high bar
  • Build and maintain a reliable, high-quality continuous delivery infrastructure and culture
  • Drive the medium- and long-term strategic roadmap for your org, in partnership with senior leadership
  • Represent engineering in cross-functional and executive conversations, including with CCC leadership

What You Bring
  • 10-15+ years of experience leading technical teams, with meaningful time at the VP level or equivalent
  • Team scale: Experience managing sizable engineering organizations (~100+ people), including multiple layers of management
  • Cross-functional depth: Hands-on experience building and leading teams that span SWE, ML/AI, and data, not just one discipline
  • Hiring and talent development: A track record of recruiting senior ICs and engineering managers; you've built benches, not just filled seats
  • Architecture fluency: Strong system design instincts; you can go deep when it matters and set direction when it doesn't
  • Modern AI tooling: Fluency with LLMs and agentic development patterns, you work this way yourself and expect your team to as well
  • Cloud infrastructure: Production experience on GCP or AWS
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication; you can translate technical complexity for any audience

What We're Looking For & Needed to Succeed:
High EQ and Character
  • Extreme self-starter, you identify what needs to happen and make it happen
  • Hold yourself and your team to a very high bar; inspires excellence without burning people out
  • Open to giving and receiving direct, candid feedback
  • Creative and resourceful, energized by problems that haven't been solved before
  • Kind, empathetic, and professional; a culture carrier, not just a culture fit

Communication & Collaboration
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, you can translate technical complexity for any audience
Strong partner to Product; you know how to align on priorities without losing engineering integrity
  • Comfortable operating in a dual-context environment (EIQ startup culture + CCC enterprise scale)

Technical & Leadership
  • Proven track record building and leading cross-functional engineering teams (SWE, ML/AI, data)
  • Experience hiring and developing engineering managers and senior ICs; you've built the bench, not just filled seats
  • Strong system design and architecture instincts, you can go deep when it matters
  • Fluency with modern AI/LLM tooling and agentic development patterns; you work this way yourself
  • Experience deploying production systems on GCP or AWS

Work-life, Culture & Perks:
  • Compensation: The base salary range is up to $350K, with flexibility depending on a candidate's background and experience. An annual bonus plan and company equity plan (RSUs) are also included in our compensation package.
  • Well-Being: Medical, dental, vision, short & long-term disability, life insurance and AD&D, and 401k matching. Additional family, wellness, and pet benefits.
  • Home & Family: Paid time off and sick leave, 100% paid parental leave (16 weeks for primary caregivers and 12 weeks for secondary caregivers). We offer a flexible schedule for new parents returning to work.
  • Office Life: Catered lunches, happy hours, pet-friendly spaces, and monthly technology stipend.
  • Growth & Training: $1,000/year for each employee for professional development, as well as opportunities for tuition reimbursement.
  • Sponsorship: We are open to sponsoring candidates currently in the U.S. who need to transfer their active visa. Please check with our Recruiting team if your visa is applicable for transfer.
