Job description

Peregrine Team is seeking a strategic and hands-on Associate Vice President of Finance and Business Operations to lead finance, accounting, and operational functions for a non-profit organization. This role partners closely with the CFO and executive leadership to drive financial strategy, operational efficiency, compliance, and long-term planning.
The ideal candidate is both a strong financial leader and an operator who can oversee accounting, reporting, budgeting, and compliance while also improving systems, processes, and cross-functional alignment across the organization.
Location: Los Angeles, CA (On-site)
FMLA: Exempt
Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a member of the CFO's leadership team and contribute to organizational strategy and financial planning
  • Oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, audits, tax, and compliance functions
  • Lead annual operating plan and budgeting process aligned with strategic priorities
  • Monitor financial performance, KPIs, and variance analysis to support executive decision-making
  • Ensure GAAP compliance, internal controls, and regulatory reporting requirements are met
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial consultants
  • Develop financial reporting tools, dashboards, and scorecards to support leadership and board reporting
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
  • Partner with operational and program teams to align financial systems and business processes
  • Drive process improvement, automation, and efficiency across finance and business operations
  • Support board reporting and presentations in partnership with the CFO
  • Participate in retirement plan governance and other organizational committees as needed

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
  • Prior senior leadership experience in a complex organization, nonprofit experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Experience working with executive leadership and/or boards of directors
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams
  • Strong communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience
  • Experience with financial transformation, process improvement, or system implementation
  • Experience working with external auditors, investment advisors, or governance committees
