This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Irvine, CA.

This role is ideal for a licensed Mechanical Engineer with strong healthcare project experience who brings a balance of technical leadership, project delivery, and client engagement. You will support the delivery of complex healthcare facilities while helping to grow WSP's presence in the Southern California market.

Your Impact

  • Serve as a technical lead for mechanical engineering design on complex healthcare projects, including hospitals, medical centers, and life sciences facilities
  • Lead and contribute to the full project lifecycle, from planning and design through construction and close-out
  • Oversee design of HVAC systems, air distribution, hydronic systems, plumbing, and central utility plants
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare codes, standards, and local regulations
  • Act as a key client interface, supporting project execution and long-term relationship development
  • Support business development efforts, including pursuits, proposals, and client strategy
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated and high-quality solutions
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to team development and technical excellence
  • Prepare and review technical reports, calculations, and specifications

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems
  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare facility design and delivery
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical design principles, and healthcare codes/standards
  • Experience supporting projects from design through construction
  • Proven ability to work in a client-facing, leadership role
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related design tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading large, complex healthcare projects
  • Established client relationships or network within the Southern California market
  • Experience contributing to business development and proposals
  • LEED AP or other sustainability credentials
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineering staff

Compensation: 

Expected Salary: $143,600- $213,200
