Job description

SUMMARY
Thisposition reports to the VP of Produce/Bulk Food/Floral and is responsible forthe consistent and timely implementation of company floral sales andmerchandising programs, and the maintenance of high standards offreshness/quality and cleanliness, during all hours of operation includingweekends. They will work closely with the stores and District Managers toinsure that floral departments are properly staffed and trained. Will workclosely with district and store management to insure compliance with allcompany initiatives, programs, and standards. Performance will be measuredthrough financial reports including sales, gross margin, shrink control,maintenance of standards, merchandising, and training
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Other duties may be assigned.

  • Responsible to develop new programs, products, initiatives to continuously improve the assortment offered for sale.  Works closely with stores to ensure that the departments are properly staffed and trained.  Works closely with store management to ensure compliance with all company initiatives, programs, and standards. Works with Category Manager on adjustments as necessary due to size, display capabilities and product mix.
  • Maintains awareness in market trends and analyzes market data from IRI, Nielsen and other reliable sources.  
  • Negotiates with vendors for cost of goods, promotional dollars, delivery terms, payment terms and growth incentives within corporate guidelines.
  • Stays updated on all competitive situations for key items and reacts when necessary.
  • Interviews vendors for new product presentations and makes decisions on new items.
  • Determines what products will be advertised and promoted in the stores.
  • Analyzes product profitability, selection, display and assortment using category management practices.
  • Ability to analyze external and internal data, interpret and make decisions and recommendations to management based off of this data.
  • Works with Replenishment Buyers in managing inventory turns, service level, order cycles, deal implementation and general supply chain practices. 
  • Budgets and monitors sales and margin plans of the Floral Department in accordance with personal and company overall goals.
  • Audits competitive product selection, displays and pricing through on-site visits.
  • Provides hands-on-training for associates assigned to the Floral Department in areas such as; product display techniques, production rotation, and order quantities.
  • Assesses the quality of incoming product and follows up with Category Manager and Vendor if quality does not meet Company standards.
  • Assesses the condition of in-store displays/fixtures and if not up to company standard, follows up with Merchandising Department to get appropriate displays/fixtures.
  • Directs the over-all set-up Floral Department and ensures adherence with Company floral programs.
  • Recommends appropriate store floral order quantities based upon the Company marketing plan, seasonality, customer mix, and historical store performance.
  • Assesses District and Store Management on the performance and training needs of associates assigned to the Floral Department, also recommends appropriate scheduling to provide optimum floral section coverage.
  • Provides regular updates to VP of Produce/Bulk Food/Floral, VP of Region and District Managers on store conditions, the effectiveness of training, and any additional training needs.
  • Documents and shares across the organization store floral displays and set-ups that are particularly effective.
  • Maintains close communication with Category Manager on industry trends.
  • Visits stores three times per week to train, coach,and develop Associates, as well as review product, check and monitor quality,and to verify compliance with Company policy and procedures.
