Job Description

Job Description:

HCSC is in need of a team to provide off-hour support for a large portion of its SQL Server and Oracle database environment. These Jr DBA's are being brought in to provide off-hour support for a SQL Server upgrade project as well as a Retail IT project. 

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Performing upgrades on databases (SQL Server 2008-2012)

Executing backups, refreshes and restores to existing production environments

Executing scripts and monitoring production releases

Representing DBA group during application and/or technology releases; this sometimes entails multi-hour conference calls where the DBA will execute change orders at some point in the call

Will aid in status updates and reporting to Lead DBA and HCSC management team.

Provide other nightly DBA duties as assigned by HCSC management for SQL Server environment. 

Working with application owners, as well as app developers on production support issues, releases to production from development, etc.. 

Application troubleshooting and support as it pertains to performance tuning

Brought in to help with the SQL Server Upgrade from 2008 -2012, but will not be solely dedicated to the project.

Additional Information:

This is a huge opportunity for a Jr level resource, striving to become a DBA, to gain a tremendous amount of experience in one of the largest and most complex SQL Server (and overall IT) environments in the Dallas market. We are looking for resources who are passionate about doing whatever it takes to support the team and overall success of the project. The years of experience are far less important than the candidate's desire to grow professionally as well as technically. The 1-3 years experience is a benchmark; we are willing to look at all levels of candidates, provided they meet the overall criteria laid out in the requirement.

The current scope of work includes the SQL Server environment, but eventually the other RDBMS platforms could come into play (DB2, Oracle, Teradata, Mongo etc.) so any experience with multiple RDBMS would be a plus.

Very fast paced, intense deadlines from time to time; will have on-call and production support on weekend/off hours

HCSC is moving to a 24/7 support model for RMAS in support of the SQL Server upgrade initiative and there is a need for a team to provide off-hour support for a large portion of its SQL Server and Oracle database environment.
