Job Summary:
The Vice President of Finance serves as the organization's senior financial executive, providing leadership over the organization's financial operations and controls, planning, forecasting, and risk management, and works with senior leadership to evaluate and implement investment strategies, facilitate growth and enhance profitability.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management and professional-level staff within the Finance and Accounting Functions.
  • Oversees the schedules, projects, and responsibilities of managerial staff in the division.
  • Provides constructive and timely annual performance evaluations and ad hoc coaching to direct reports, as necessary.

General Duties/Responsibilities:
  • In collaboration with company senior management and departmental associates, develops, implements, operates, and maintains the essential operating systems, information reporting, and financial business of the company.
  • Oversees the production and distribution of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements that are accurate, compliant, and timely; Manages the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of financial records; coordinates distribution of required financial reporting to Berkshire Hathaway.
  • Defines and implements key performance indicators (KPIs) and strategic objectives for the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function and, as appropriate, the entire organization; facilitates measurement of those KPIs and objectives, reporting results to senior management. Drive improvements in gross margin return on investment (GMROI) and EBITDA growth and margin improvement.
  • Oversees enterprise risk management including insurance programs, PCI compliance, coordinating cyber security with I.T. leadership, disaster recovery, physical security/safety, and asset protection.
  • Drafts and implements policies and best practices related to the Finance Function and overall organization, as appropriate, which support achievement of objectives and required standards.
  • Advises and consults the President and other company senior management on the financial implications of strategic initiatives, expansion, investment and operational decisions.
  • Participates in the evaluation and implementation of new initiatives to improve profitability, modifications to staffing levels, and creation or review of return on investment (ROI) calculations on new projects, equipment or systems.
  • Oversees legal and regulatory matters including claims, collections issues, leases, and taxes.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with Berkshire Hathaway for financial reporting, SOX compliance, as well as compliance with various Berkshire Hathaway policies for ethics, business practices, accounting, and code of conduct.
  • Serves as the primary administrator of the company 401(k) retirement plan, including coordinating annual compliance testing, overseeing the annual audit, compilation and filing of the annual form 5500, and implementing changes in laws and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP, tax laws, consumer credit regulations, SOX, and Berkshire Hathaway policies.
  • Maintains knowledge of developments and trends in national and local economic conditions, accounting, finance and administration including technological advances.
  • Participates in the evaluation and implementation of new systems and technologies, and major modifications of existing systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required (CPA and/or MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in the Finance or Accounting function required with progressive responsibilities culminating in leadership role(s).
  • 5 + years of experience in a supervisory role in a medium to large size organization.
  • Experience in multi-unit retail, furniture, or end-consumer business is strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience presenting to Boards of Directors or senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of inventory-driven business models is required.
