The Division of Advancement and Alumni Engagement utilizes resources, technology, and business for the purpose of soliciting alumni, donor engagement, donor research, and stewardship throughout Emory University and Health Systems. Our mission is to inspire and steward meaningful, lasting relationships that elevate engagement and giving to fulfill Emory's mission to serve humanity. We are currently seeking an Assistant Vice President of Advancement - Brain Health & Discovery Programs.
The Woodruff Health Sciences team is responsible for partnering with physicians, researchers, and faculty leaders to identify and engage potential supporters and building relationships with patients, friends, or others to support the work of Emory. This position will report to the Senior Associate Vice President of Advancement - Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This position is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the fundraising, alumni, and constituent engagement efforts for schools and units within Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
  • Manages a team of senior staff who perform at the highest levels with sustained success in managing individual, corporate, foundation, and planned gift activity for respective schools working in close coordination with deans, faculty, physicians, and/or program directors to identify key initiatives for private funding.
  • Manages a portfolio of principal and major gift prospects, works with volunteer leadership groups related to major gift activity, directs the planning for major gift functions, donor recognition and major gift stewardship.
  • Facilitates partnerships with other departments/schools/units within the division and the University.
  • Participates in the advancement strategic planning process, assists in policy making for department-wide initiatives, and may represent the division at university functions.
  • Develops and manages budgets.
  • Some travel is required.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Assistant Vice President may be required to:
  • Meet division metrics for visit preparation, qualification, contact reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system.
  • Represent the department, school/unit, division, or University.
  • This position requires coming in person two days a week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and ten years experience in alumni engagement, fundraising, or public relations and demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and administering programs related to alumni engagement, volunteer management, marketing or related fields with team leadership and staff management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successful candidates will possess experience as lead solicitor, closing gifts of ($100K+ and $1M) from prospects, working in comprehensive campaigns.
  • Prior experience in clinical/grateful patient fundraising with a preference for experience at an Academic Medical Center.
  • An interest or aptitude for science, medicine and scientific discovery.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial reports, working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience leading teams and departments, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Master's level degree.
  • Superb written, verbal, and research skills as well as effective presentation skills.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Capacity to lead and develop a team's skills through effective feedback and coaching, motivating and empowering colleagues while being institutionally minded, strategic, and impactful.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
