As the Estimator for Velociti's Data Center & Technology team, you'll be the driving force behind the quoting process for structured cabling, fiber optic infrastructure, technology installations, and mission-critical data center projects across North America.
You'll collaborate closely with Sales, Project Management, Operations, Procurement, and executive leadership to ensure every proposal reflects Velociti's commitment to quality, precision, and customer value.
Your expertise will directly influence project profitability, client satisfaction, and business growth.
Reporting To: SVP, Product & Solution Architecture
What You'll Do
Lead the Estimating Process
  • Own the complete estimating lifecycle from project review through final proposal submission.
  • Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and scope documents to develop detailed labor and material takeoffs.
  • Create accurate, competitive estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, overhead, and project risks.
  • Prepare professional proposals and customer-facing quotes that clearly define scope and value.
  • Maintain and improve estimating databases, labor units, pricing structures, and productivity benchmarks.
Become a Data Center Subject Matter Expert
  • Develop estimates for:
    • Structured cabling systems
    • Fiber optic infrastructure (single-mode and multi-mode)
    • Copper cabling systems
    • Custom cable assemblies
    • Cable management systems
    • Patch panel and connectivity solutions
    • Server racks and cabinet installations
    • Power distribution and supporting technology infrastructure
  • Apply industry best practices and standards, including TIA-942, ANSI/TIA, and BICSI methodologies.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and installation practices within modern data center environments.
Drive Winning Proposals
  • Review RFPs, RFQs, and bid packages to identify requirements, exclusions, assumptions, and pricing opportunities.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Manage multiple active bids while ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
  • Participate in client meetings, site walks, and scope review discussions.
  • Support sales strategy by providing pricing guidance and competitive market insights.
Collaborate Across the Business
  • Partner with Project Managers and Field Operations to validate labor assumptions and identify project risks.
  • Work with Procurement to maintain current and competitive material pricing.
  • Support project handoffs to ensure smooth transitions from estimating to execution.
  • Assist with change order pricing and scope modifications throughout project lifecycles.
Improve Processes & Performance
  • Maintain organized bid files, estimating records, and proposal documentation.
  • Track bid results and analyze win/loss data to improve future estimating accuracy.
  • Recommend enhancements to estimating tools, templates, and workflows.
  • Provide leadership with reporting and visibility into the estimating pipeline.

What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of estimating experience in:
    • Structured cabling
    • Data center infrastructure
    • Low-voltage systems
    • Technology installation
    • Electrical contracting environments
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical scope documents.
  • Working knowledge of copper and fiber structured cabling systems.
  • Experience using estimating software, takeoff platforms, and advanced Excel-based estimating tools.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • High level of accountability, ownership, and initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience estimating large-scale data center construction or retrofit projects.
  • Knowledge of hyperscale, colocation, or mission-critical environments.
  • Familiarity with:
    • TIA-942
    • BICSI TDMM
    • ANSI/TIA standards
  • BICSI RCDD certification or similar industry credential.
  • Background in field installation, project management, or low-voltage construction.
  • Experience with DCIM platforms and technology infrastructure management tools.
  • Working knowledge of Procore, Accubid, ERP systems, or similar project platforms.

Work Location & Flexibility
Kansas City Area Candidates
This position is based at our Riverside, Missouri headquarters. Team members are expected to work onsite with flexibility as coordinated with leadership to support collaboration, customer engagement, and project success.
Remote Candidates
Qualified candidates located outside the Kansas City metro area may work remotely. Periodic travel to the Riverside office will be required for meetings, training, and business needs.
Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based with extensive computer and estimating software usage.
  • Occasional travel to active project sites and customer facilities.
  • Must be able to follow all site safety requirements and PPE protocols.
  • Ability to work effectively under proposal deadlines and bid schedules.
  • Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 25 pounds during site visits.
