Job description

Overview
Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Telecommunications Infrastructure Design Technician to support a major national laboratory.
Under minimal supervision, the Technician applies advanced technical and operational expertise to inspect, test, and validate new telecommunications circuits and modifications to existing circuits, ensuring functionality and compliance with design specifications, approved materials and equipment, industry standards, plant telecommunications requirements, and established best practices. The candidate collaborates with operating companies and business units to understand business objectives, technical requirements, and organizational priorities.
Responsibilities
  • In this position, the candidate working independently will ensure conformance of work on-site as per standards such as NEC, BICSI, NFPA, ANSI/TIA, project and site specifications, project specifications, and others.
  • Assure conformance of work as per technical specifications, design scope, and plant requirements.
  • Assures installation as per approved material standards, conformance standards, and best practices.
  • Inspect and test voice and data circuits after installation of new circuits or changes to existing cables, noting and updating changes to final configuration if different from planned design.
  • Maintain circuit documentation and circuit testing data in a centralized file scheme for quick retrieval when needed.
  • Interface with various telecommunication contractors and the plant facilities organization to ensure consistent communication of installation, design changes, testing, and conformance of work to requirements.
  • Provide leadership for inspection, testing and determining if products are conforming to the project.
  • Ensure that quality inspection activities are conducted, documented and communicated in accordance with OEM manuals, Industry best practices, and plant operating procedure.

Qualifications
  • Associates Degree with 2 years job related experience. In lieu of degree 5 years job related experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance.
  • Must be US Citizen

Required Skills and Certifications:
  • Must be experienced with infrastructure cabling, installation, testing and best practices for voice, data and VoIP.
  • Must have a New Mexico Journeyman License ES-7J (Telephone Communications System and Telephone interconnect systems or higher.
  • Strong computer skills with emphasis on applications are required.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and support on-call duties and shift work.
  • Ability to collaborate work effort between multiple groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates degree or higher in IT, with emphasis on Networking, or Telecommunications.
  • BICSI Technician Certification
  • BICSI RCDD certification
