Job description

Lead Estimator - Structured Cable
Job Summary:
Lead Estimator is responsible for management of a set number of estimators and the workflow from designated departments. The Lead Estimator will interact with sales and operations to ensure all opportunities are reviewed and assigned to an estimator in a timely manner. Work with their team of estimators and peers to ensure requests are completed within the set timeframe as requested. Provide a point of contact for sales as a technical resource and assist with customer meetings/site walks and/or pre/post bid interviews.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Manage workflow within their estimating team.
  2. Mentor and provide direction to estimators and designers.
  3. Work with VP of Pre-Construction, Pre-Construction Managers and peers to develop process and continuous improvement within the design and estimating department.
  4. Supervise quality/efficiency within their design and estimating team.
  5. Provide expert leadership and relationship skills while managing their teams and their interactions with IES's clients.
  6. Manage (4-12) designers/estimators in the creation of each system design (deadlines, quality and delivering product to clients) and accurate cost estimates.
  7. Manage schedules.
  8. Holds project team members accountable for deliverables and financial performance
  9. Serve as a technical lead and mentor. Provide technical support or leadership in the development and continual improvement of service.
  10. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with team members
  11. Demonstrate the ability to adapt and work with team members of various experience level.
  12. Collaborate with other leads and content producers on the implementation of cross discipline processes.
  13. Conduct performance reviews for specific estimators.
  14. Recruit, hire, train, manage, supervise, promote, discipline and discharge, if necessary, estimating staff. Effectively manage all human resource issues per Company policies and procedures.
  15. Participate in design and estimating department management meetings/decision making.
  16. Assist the sales department by attending site-walk and pre-bid meetings on project activity. Track all site visits and keep detailed information of site conditions for use in the design of the final proposal package.
  17. Act as liaison with sales, project management and operations when project is turned over for installation. Monitor that the sales price and actual installation costs coincide.
  18. Provide and direct workload for complete project estimating, selection of applicable materials and define basis for assigning and estimating labor. Write scope of work and develop cost estimate in response to bid specifications.
  19. Follow Company guidelines on preferred selection of vendors and products. Work with VP of Pre-Con, VP of Sales and Sales Directors to obtain best solution, most competitive price and proper lead-time on materials.
  20. Provide floor plan takeoffs and project application per Company's recommended solutions book and technical support personnel.
  21. Ensure that all estimating work meets the customer and Company quality and safety level at all times.
  22. Perform project post-mortems to evaluate fade and gain on closed projects.
  23. Attend training and review sessions on technical requirements according to the Company's training guidelines. Learn new technologies and provide training to staff.
  24. Provide technical sales support and technology presentations to sales department and clients.
  25. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and lead others to create, develop and implement project process improvement(s).

  • Must possess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentation(s).
  • Must have proven high skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Must be able to travel nationally.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree: Engineering, Construction Management or Accounting Degree preferred.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in customer interface, such as liaison between the customer and the Company.
  • Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of experience in telecommunications/special systems or a related technical or construction field.
  • Certification from major communications and special systems suppliers preferred.
  • RCDD, CTS-D, RTPM or other design management certification highly favored.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project).
  • BlueBeam Revu experience favored
  • Must be familiar with and able to effectively utilize a project-based accounting software package.
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
  • Must have the proven ability to design, engineer, estimate and develop a written and graphic representation of the Company's proposed solutions utilizing the automation resources provided by the Company.
