Job description

Summary:

The Visual Effects Supervisor leads creative execution and technical direction for entertainment content. They are the key point of contact along with the Creative Director and the Producer. The VFX Supervisor is the point person for deciding internal tasking on shots, conducting efficient review of artists’ work, and has overall responsibility for internal sign-off on “final” shots.

In addition to overseeing projects, this role places a strong emphasis on securing new projects through pitching across a wide range of opportunities. Our VFX Supervisor must bring exceptional communication skills along with complete enthusiasm and commitment to every pitch and project they support.

Key to the success of the role is a broader commitment to the success of the company, a genuine willingness to contribute where needed in a wide variety of roles on all projects, and leadership skills to inspire and mentor the next generation of artists.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with vendor partners to ensure that our shared vision is met, constantly improving each production
  • Provide creative and technical input during pre-production, working with in-house Creative Directors and Producers along with potential production partners to plan show approaches, identify key challenges and propose solutions
  • Work closely with the Producer to ensure an accurate production schedule is defined and maintained
  • Collaboratively lead projects from concept to delivery, ensuring the creative vision aligns with internal expectations and external partners
  • A willingness to assist other projects across the Cosm Entertainment Productions team, which may include working on the box
  • Oversee the technical and creative direction of each shot and sequence for Experiential Cinema and Originals content
  • Daily review of assets and work in progress
  • Manage and handle internal communications with company leadership as well as external vendors and partners for clarity of deliverables, schedules, clearances, and budgets
  • Build and maintain internal and production partner relationships
  • Working alongside the Sr Director Entertainment Production, the Associate Production Director and/or the show Producer to find ways to execute projects within budget and schedule
  • Responsible for forecasting for future show demands
  • Work closely with the Creative Technologies team on pipeline improvements and developments
  • Work with Technical Developers and Pipeline teams to make improvements, focusing on workflow
  • Work out necessary element, technical and R&D requirements
  • Attend shoots to ensure that VFX needs are considered during filming and the appropriate data is captured while providing guidance to the Director, DOP and internal stakeholders
  • Attend artist interviews as needed, and keep an eye out for outstanding talent
  • Mentorship of the next generation of artists by nurturing, guiding and leading by example
  • Some travel may be required

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in visual effects including recent supervision experience both studio-based and on location
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in VFX with 5+ years supervising complex projects
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for the company and dedication to delivering all projects to the best ability
  • Expertise in Nuke, Maya, Houdini, Unreal GPU and CPU rendering
  • A thorough understanding of color theory and film application for live-action film including film stock, film grain, color space and look-up tables, film processing and DI processing
  • A great leader with the ability to inspire and lead by example
  • Collaborative skills, ability to work well with others and enthusiasm to be involved in a variety of projects

The annualized base salary range for this position in California is $140,000 to 190,000. The base salary offered will factor in internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience, among other factors.
