Job description

POSITION 26A143 TITLE:  Competitive Robotics Coach/Advisor
LOCATION:  Sherrard Middle
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.   Organize and carry out a competitive robotics program that will promote team and school pride
2.   Accept the responsibility for the welfare of the students under his/her supervision
3.   Attempt to integrate the robotics program with the total school/county program
4.   Promote positive public relations concerning the school's robotics program
5.   Abide by the regional, county, state, and federal rules and regulations for Vex Robotics Competitions (VRC)
6.   Work in conjunction and coordination with athletic programs.
7.   Make transportation requests for team travel
8.   Accept responsibility for the retention and care of robotics equipment
9.   Provide leadership and support in his/her area of responsibility
10. Maintain professional work habits
11. Accept responsibility of professional behavior of all volunteer coaches
12. Maintain and upgrade his/her professional skills
13. Perform all duties as assigned by principal
QUALIFICATIONS:  VEX V-5 Certification (or be willing to obtain certification). 
A coach must be certified as a teacher in the State of WV or complete any education program as endorsed by Marshall County Schools, the WVSSAC, the State Board of Education or WVDE.  Persons who have not previously completed approved training, upon acceptance as a coach by the local board, must complete approved training and apply to the WV Department of Education for an authorization within sixty days of board acceptance.  Coaching duties must not interfere with other contracted duties held by the successful applicant, and the successful applicant must be available for practice and game times and dates as determined by the principal in coordination with county office administrators.
RESPONSIBILITIES MORE SPECIFIC TO MARSHALL COUNTY SCHOOLS ROBOTICS:





















  1. Assist in planning of and participation in the Annual Marshall County Engineering Expo
  2. Register the school team as a VEX Robotics Competition team
  3. Learn game rules and participate in multiple competitions
  4. Plan and communicate a schedule for his/her school with flexibility to allow the participation of students active in other events and activities
  5. Create a schedule for his/her school focused on readiness for competitions primarily scheduled during the spring months
  6. Plan team meetings and assign team roles
  7. Develop a team identity
  8. Build a competitive robot and document the build process

TO WHOM RESPONSIBLE:  Principal of School
EMPLOYMENT TERM:    2026 - 2027 School year, season varies
BID PERIOD:  May 28 - June 3, 2026 (3:00 pm).  If necessary, interviews will be arranged after bid period closes.
