Essential Job Duties
North Carolina State University invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Veterinary Academic Excellence in the College of Veterinary Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to advance human and animal health and welfare through the excellence in teaching veterinary and graduate students; application of the most current research techniques addressing complex medical problems; and/or providing cutting edge clinical care at one of the nation's leading colleges of veterinary medicine. We are seeking a dynamic and transformational academic to join our teams. The applicant will join and strengthen our research, teaching and clinical service teams to provide transformational knowledge in their discipline. The discipline of interest for this position is expected to highlight and expand on already existing strengths within the College of Veterinary Medicine, opening new frontiers in the college. In this role you will enhance the CVM's abilities and expand our reach in the areas of research, teaching and/or clinical service. It will synergize with existing faculty to build an internationally-recognized program focused in their discipline of interest. Additionally, you will play an active role in training veterinary, house officers and/or graduate students by providing new perspectives in the discipline.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Apply cutting edge scientific knowledge and techniques to develop impactful solutions for complex medical issues in humans and animals.
  • Support and encourage leadership in comparative medicine; promote the ability to transfer excellence in research, service and training from animals to human health.
  • Leverage faculty access to our state-of-the-art veterinary teaching hospital to foster close collaborations between the CVM and other NC State groups, the medical schools at Duke and the University of North Carolina, and the North Carolina Research Triangle Park.
  • Serve as an advocate in enhancing the abilities, visibility, and reach of the CVM's research, teaching and clinical service programs.
  • Synergize with existing faculty to build an internationally-recognized program particularly around the College and University's current strengths.
  • Play an active role in training veterinary, house officer, and graduate students by providing new perspectives.
  • Train veterinary, house officer, and/or graduate students. Participate in didactic teaching at the graduate level and augment veterinary student education.
  • Secure extramural funding for their independent research program and trainees.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • One of the following: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Medical Doctorate (MD) or equivalent along with PhD. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Record of impactful record of scholarly achievement
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with extramurally funded research programs.
  • A record of active participation in professional/scientific affairs and of teaching and/or research experience.
  • A record of collegial and productive interactions with faculty, staff and students.Interest and enthusiasm for training and mentorship, particularly with regard to graduate students, house officers, and/or postdoctoral fellows.
  • Comfort and experience working with highly interdisciplinary and collaborative faculty with an emphasis on biomedical and translational research.
  • Strong desire to establish collaborative relationships both within the university and with the private and public sectors.
