Job Description:
Primary Purpose of Role:
As the Engineering Operations Senior Test Equipment Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting Product Engineering by designing powertrain test setups that meet testing needs. After test equipment is installed, you will be responsible to support Facility Technicians in troubleshooting, servicing, and maintaining equipment. The Senior Test Equipment Engineer is responsible for maintaining inventory of currently owned test equipment (i.e. dynamometers, inertia wheels, hydraulic systems, cooling systems) and understanding current test capabilities and developing specifications for the purchase of new test equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Having a strong understanding of the capabilities of test equipment and utilizing existing hardware to create test setups that meet the needs of Product Engineering.
  • Working with Test Engineers to understand test requirements.
  • Making recommendations on how testing should be completed.
  • Directing the work of Technicians and Skilled Trades support to execute test setups and repairs.
  • Acting as a resource to Test Technicians in troubleshooting test equipment faults/failures
  • Designing and approving test cell layouts and partner with design development for proper documentation setup

Qualifications:
Required:
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive powertrain testing
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or Engineering Technology (ME, MET, EE, EET) or equivalent experience with a Vocational Degree
  • Proficiency in both oral and written business communication
  • Strong knowledge of automatic transmission operation, clutches, controls (both hydraulic and electrical), hydraulics, and gears
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Solid mechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency with computer operation, including Microsoft Office tools

Preferred:
  • Data collection and script development
  • Experience with dynamometers, inertia wheels, hydraulic systems, and cooling systems
  • Experience with industrial controls
  • Experience with SAP ARIBA spend management software
  • Basic Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing interpretation and application

Travel:
  • 10% or less for travel. Most travel would be local, potentially regionally.
