Job Description:

Primary Purpose of Role:

As the Senior Engineer, Test Engineering Equipment, you will be responsible for specifying, designing, analyzing, installing, configuring and troubleshooting test equipment, and test setups, used in the execution of testing prototype automotive powertrain hardware in the Engineering Operations organization. A person in this position will work closely, daily, with other members of Engineering Operations to deliver test solutions and meet program deliverables. You will be expected to support complex projects and make some decisions with management support. The role will provide opportunity for hands-on involvement with Allison products, industrial test equipment, test operating controls systems, and powertrain systems including high horsepower engines, input and output dynamometers, propulsion systems, drivelines, heat exchangers, and cooling systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, specify, design and analyze automotive powertrain test setups
  • Support Test Engineering Technicians to install/configure test equipment
  • Troubleshoot faulty test equipment and implement corrective actions
  • Participate in/lead program planning and status update meetings
  • Participate in the management of test equipment inventory and forecast/prepare for future testing needs
  • Support and manage external support resources and associated contracts/ costs
  • Propose and lead implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to promote efficiency, reduce costs, and create sustainable solutions
  • Providing decision-making and a high level of independent judgments based on experience and skill to achieve KPI objectives
  • Work cross functionally with EO and PE to understand and meet the needs of engineering programs on-time and within budget
  • Support development and implementation of new test solutions to meet evolving industry needs
  • Lead implementation of applicable procedures and practices
  • Establishes and updates best practices and standardized testing procedures
  • Working with independent judgment and decision making with some management oversight
  • Adheres to and strives to improve the engineering development process
  • Propose, Implement and support safety policies and initiatives
  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of testing
  • Executing other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering or equivalent degree/experience

Experience:

  • 5+ years of Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive Engineering experience
  • Proficient in oral and written business communication
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to set and meet goals for all deliverables
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude
  • Proficiency with computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Able to work independently with some direction
  • Able and willing to make decisions and choose direction on technical aspects of role with limited information
  • Strong experience in laboratory test environment
  • Familiarity with 3D modelling software

Preferred Experience

  • Strong knowledge of automatic transmissions and/or electric vehicle propulsion systems
  • Experience in automotive powertrain testing environment
  • Experience designing, analyzing, using, troubleshooting test equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot mechanical/electrical systems
