Title: Applications Engineer

Job description:


The Application Engineer position is a professional engineering position with responsibilities in the areas of product development, field technical assistance, sales and manufacturing support. Experienced design-engineering work with varied duties of a complex nature. 

With general guidance from engineering management, supports new product design and existing product development with engineering expertise. Provides technical Customer Service and conducts product training on an as needed basis. Provides engineered solutions to improve components and products. Develops concepts for new products that achieve the desired quality at the most favorable cost. May supervise technical personnel. Prepares or directs preparation of layouts, drawings and specifications. Defines tests to be conducted and evaluates test results. Recommends or develops design changes. Provides technical support to sales and manufacturing. 



Job requirement: 


Customizes and validates Horton products for use in OEM customer applications. 

o Visits customer locations at project initiation to develop an understanding of the customer's needs. 


o Directs the modeling and drafting of concepts into designs that can be analyzed and tested. 


o Validates materials and concepts through analysis and test, working closely with the Test and Research staff to design tests and document results. 


o Determines when an aspect of a product is ready for release and provides authorization for release of drawings and literature. 


Supports the on-going improvement of existing product designs. 


o Develops test designs to measure the function and quality of products and to test new ideas or modifications of existing products. 


o Provides technical expertise in support of improvements to existing product designs; authorizes product design revisions resulting from Engineering Change Requests (ECR's). 


o Provides engineering support to the process of modification of existing products to meet customer requirements, while retaining product function and quality. 


Directs the activities of the technical staff. 


o Trains staff members in the techniques of creative problem solving and product development and directs the use of computer assisted design (CAD) software. 


o Leads and prioritizes the activities of the staff and works to develop an effective Design unit, 


Provides design related support to the sales and management functions, assisting sales staff to respond to customer requests. 


o Attends sales and marketing planning meetings to discuss design needs and brainstorm for ideas regarding ways to meet specific customer or general market requirements. 


o Travels to customer locations with sales staff to observe applications and collect information necessary for addressing specific customer needs. 


o Attends trade shows and answers technical questions while staffing the trade show booth. 


Participates in the process of screening vendors and their products for use by client. 


Provide technical product expertise to OEM and end customers. 


o Provide on-site assistance to OEM customers to ensure successful application of Horton product 


o Provide field service to diagnose or repair equipment to meet the standards of 

Operation required by clients 


o Meets with various levels of customer staff, including decision makers and product users, to resolve problems with product applications 


o Provides diagnosis of field failures and reports the information 


o Helps maintain field service related working files to track product trends on problems and issues and reports to Engineering Supervisor or Director of Engineering when a product shows signs of potential trouble 


o Troubleshoots problems and attempts to identify causes for warranty problems in order to prevent repeat occurrences. 


o Works with Engineering Manager, Sales account personnel and Warranty Manager to resolve matters regarding the warranty of sold goods. 


Coordinates product field tests to determine production use suitability of new or improved designs. 


o Works with Engineering personnel and PEP Coordinator to set up field tests in order to work out specific existing or potential future problems. 


o Collection of performance information in the field and the writing of detailed reports that provide design development information to the engineering staff. 


Provide technical training in support of Horton employees. 


o Provides training to sales personnel. 


o Provides product related technical orientation to customer maintenance staff. 


Required qualification: 

Requires a four year engineering degree and two to five years of varied experience in engineering.
