Job Summary
The Vehicle Test Engineer II will support test procedure execution, for full vehicles, on test track or road surfaces, at the request of Program or Design Engineers, for attributes such as durability, strength, fatigue, or customer usage. Plan, implement, track, and document testing of full vehicles. Ensure test plans are adequate for intended system validation, ensure vehicles are test ready, that collected data meets requirements, and approved procedures are followed. Utilize a variety of data acquisition methods to support testing any vehicle subsystem. Analyze test data to form conclusions and develop test procedures. The Vehicle Test Engineer II will perform independent project tasks and collaborate with customers and team members. This position is located in Whittmann, AZ.
As a Vehicle Test Engineer II, you will:
  • Support Design and Program Engineers in test planning, to ensure appropriate vehicle configuration and procedure for adequate system prove-out
  • Inspect vehicles to ensure they are representative, properly instrumented, and ready to test
  • Participate in daily monitoring, and initiate team communication when issues occur
  • Maintain high quality database records of all issues found, and resolutions applied
  • Support issue diagnosis and root cause by driving vehicles and consulting with Design Engineers
  • Provide detailed repair direction to technicians as required, with engineering service procedures, and illustrations
  • Support implementation of new diagnostic, safety, or test equipment/methods
  • Identify needs for test hardware or software upgrades, and support business case requests
  • Maintain data analysis macros and programs
  • Compile test data, perform analysis, and provide feedback and conclusions to customers

To be considered a Vehicle Test Engineer II, you will need:
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automotive Engineering, Automotive Engineering Technology, or equivalent
  • U.S. Citizen allowing for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive systems design, development, or testing
  • Good understanding of powertrain and chassis system principles
  • Knowledge of fluid flow and heat transfer, systems, and components
  • Knowledge of basic programming and electronics troubleshooting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel

A successful candidate may also have:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with Engineering design or testing of powertrain, chassis, body, or electrical systems
  • Basic proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Visual Basic, MATLAB, Python, C++, etc.)
  • Familiarity with control module flashing, calibration files, and CAN signal communication
  • Ability to use scientific measurement equipment (transducers, strain gauges, accelerometers, emission benches, etc.)
  • Good ability to read and interpret engineering illustrations and procedures
