Job description

Job Description - Staff Bridge Engineer

Pennoni is hiring! Pennoni is looking for passionate Staff Bridge Engineer to join our collaborative, fun team on a full time, direct basis in Pennoni's Transportation Bridge Team located in our Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD offices.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis and/or design of Bridges (Highway & Railroad), Culverts, Retaining Walls, and Overhead Sign Structures on a variety of projects (bridge replacement/rehabilitation, highway improvement, etc.); this includes multi-disciplinary projects for MDSHA, MDTA, DDOT, DelDOT, PennDOT, VDOT and other agencies/bridge owners throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region.
  • Perform NBIS Bridge inspections in Maryland and DC as well as the surrounding states (with occasional opportunities for domestic travel).
  • Produce high-quality technical writing for use in bridge inspection reports, specifications, studies, and other engineering documents.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed.

Required Attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline (e.g.: Structural Engineering, etc.).
  • Successfully passed the Fundamental of Engineering Exam (EIT)
  • 4+ years bridge inspection experience.
  • Meet NBIS Topside Team Inspector requirements
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
  • Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet client objectives.
  • Occasional travel/overnight travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements and project location.
  • Microstation or AutoCAD experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with structural analysis programs (e.g.: STAAD, LEAP Bridge, LEAP Concrete, AASHTOWare, BrR, BRASS, SAP/CSI, etc.)
  • Proficiency on basic office software applications, especially Microsoft Office 365.
  • Proven ability to learn and apply new skills while simultaneously seeking / seizing opportunities to improve work products.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
