Job description

Pennoni Associates is currently seeking a Staff Bridge Engineer to perform the following, but not limited to:

  • Lead development of structural monitoring projects that includes bridge structural monitoring and building monitoring.
  • Building monitoring is frequently in response to construction activity and includes vibration, noise, tilt, and deformation monitoring.
  • Bridge structural monitoring is comprehensive and supports indefinite preservation of signature bridges.
  • Conduct finite element analysis of complex bridges using CSiBridge, SAPP2000, ABACUS and other finite element modeling software for refined load rating.
  • Assist with bridge design, bridge inspection and load rating tasks associated with transportation improvement projects, bridge replacement/rehabilitation projects, NBIS bridge safety inspections, locally administered transportation projects, highway, and bridges projects for a variety of clients. including PennDOT, SEPTA, DRPA, DRJTBC, MDOT SHA, MDTA, VDOT and DCDOT, local municipalities and agencies in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
  • Opportunity to work with challenging structural projects using 3-D BIM (bridge information modeling) platforms.

Required Attributes

  • EIT certification is required and eligible for taking the Professional Engineer's examine within 12 months of joining Pennoni.

  • Background in structural performance monitoring and instrumentation of bridges and buildings.

  • Experience in finite element analysis using CSiBridge and other model software.

  • Experience in refined load rating using data from structural instrumentation.

  • 4-7 years experience.

Preferred Attributes

  • Professional Engineer License.

  • Experience in the analysis of complex steel and concrete bridges, bascule span, swing span and lift span bridge performance using global structural monitoring data.

  • Refined load rating conforming to the AASHTO Bridge Evaluation Manual.

  • Experience in the development of MATLAB and Python code for the analysis of structural performance data.
