Position Details
  • Position Title: Eastern External Security Officer
  • Employment Status: Full-Time and Part-Time Positions Available; Non-Exempt
  • Salary Range: Starting at $20/hr
  • Reports To: Account Manager
  • Location: Virginia Commonwealth University-Residential Buildings
  • Benefits: Medical & Dental Coverage, paid training, company-provided uniform package, opportunities for advancement, overtime available.
Position Summary and Location
To enhance safety & security at Virginia Commonwealth University, VCU Residential Life & Housing has partnered with RMC Events, Inc. The primary purpose of our Security Services Division is to provide high visibility and high proactive engagement with members of the community, to enhance overall safety & security. Unarmed Security Officers will personify the face of VCU upon entrance to their residence halls and will often be the first point of contact for students, faculty, visitors, and the public in and around the University. Staffing will include 12 unique residence hall positions, staffed on the overnight shift 7 days per week. Duties will primarily focus on access control, while providing excellent customer service skills to all members of the VCU community.
Job Duties and Physical Requirements
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with a diverse community.
  • Ability to operate a portable radio and provide clear transmissions in English.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Must be able to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Post Orders.
  • Must have reliable transportation and always be punctual for assigned shifts.
  • Capable of standing for long periods and lifting items weighing up to 20 pounds, as needed.
  • Repetitive movements are required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and descend stairs, bend, squat, push, and pull frequently.
  • Work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions as well as occasionally outdoors in weather conditions with varying temperatures.
  • Ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous/urgent situations, and report important visual details to management/police/first responders.
  • Must be able to work in all-weather environments.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen authorized to legally work in the U.S.
  • Must submit to an extensive background check including criminal history (VA State Police & FBI fingerprints),
  • personal & professional references, & employment and education verifications.
  • Successfully complete the initial application process and required DCJS training course, provided by RMC Events.
  • Ability to interact cordially and communicate with a diverse community.
  • Ability to assess and react to all situations to include emergencies quickly, accurately, and effectively.
  • Must maintain a neat, clean, & well-groomed appearance.
  • Must be able to work a permanent schedule with abundant overtime opportunities.
  • All employees are required to possess a fundamental proficiency in technology, such as using email, navigating
    scheduling software, and effectively utilizing tools like Zoom and MS Teams.
