Position Overview

We are seeking a Biological Data Analyst to support defense and government customers in Chantilly, VA. In this role, you will perform biological data analysis and bioinformatics to support the evaluation of biological hazards and emerging threats. Working as part of a multidisciplinary technical team, you will analyze complex genomic and biological datasets, develop computational workflows, and deliver actionable insights that inform mission-critical decision-making.

This position is ideal for individuals with a strong foundation in bioinformatics, computational biology, or genomics who enjoy applying data science and analytical techniques to solve complex biological challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze genomic, sequencing, and other biological datasets to identify microbial characteristics, genetic variants, mutations, and potential biological hazards.
  • Execute, maintain, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for sequence alignment, variant identification, and biological data processing.
  • Develop and automate data processing workflows using Python, R, or other scientific computing languages.
  • Interpret complex biological data and communicate findings through technical reports, briefings, and presentations tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Maintain biological databases and ensure quality control through standardized operating procedures and data validation practices.
  • Collaborate with scientists, analysts, and technical subject matter experts to evaluate biological data against customer requirements and mission objectives.
  • Support continuous improvement of analytical methodologies, computational workflows, and data management processes.

Required QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in:
    • Bioinformatics
    • Computational Biology
    • Computational Genetics
    • Biology with a computational emphasis
    • Or a related quantitative life sciences discipline
Experience
  • Two (2) or more years of professional experience analyzing biological data or developing bioinformatics workflows.
Technical Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or another scientific programming language for biological data analysis.
  • Experience using standard bioinformatics tools for sequence alignment and genomic analysis.
  • Familiarity with genomic databases and biological data repositories.
  • Experience processing, analyzing, and interpreting genomic or sequencing datasets.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting federal government, defense, or national security programs.
  • Familiarity with microbial genomics, pathogen characterization, or biological threat analysis.
  • Experience developing automated bioinformatics pipelines.
