Job description

PAY RATE: $19.75/hour

The Swim Instructor is responsible for the swim lesson knowledge and information of all participants within their swim lesson course. Candidates must be able to instruct people in the proper methods of swimming and safety skills. Candidates must exhibit genuine interest, enthusiasm, and dedication to their work. Applicants must be 15 years of age or older.

The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Conduct swimming classes according to Lakewood Swim Instructor course descriptions and requirements. Provide competent leadership and a safe environment for students during class.
  • Completion and distribution of report cards and applicable swim lessons forms in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Aquatics Specialist and supplementary direction from the seasonal pool manager/assistant pool manager.

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively with team members, participants, and the public in a positive way.
  • Ability to employ effective instructional methods and swim instructor techniques, as well as the ability to model those techniques to subordinate staff and swim lesson participants.
  • Background check required.

Technological Skills

  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word and Excel.

Education and Experience

  • Education: N/A
  • Experience: Swim lesson instructor experience required.

Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training

  • Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification OR Lakewood Swim Instructor training or in the process of obtaining.

Pay Range

$15.16-$57.58

Background and reference checks will be conducted for all regular and some variable/seasonal positions.
