Job description

Value Added Distributors is looking for a driven, hardworking, and enthusiastic Estimator to join a team of experts at our Chambersburg, PA location. This position reports to the Quote Cell Coordinator and will assist in the day-to-day quoting of customer projects.

Headquartered in Wisconsin, we take pride in our midwestern work ethic and our team of employees, providing outstanding products and unparalleled service to our valued customers. Operating in eight states with eighteen locations throughout the mid-western, southern, and eastern United States, we utilize state of the art equipment and employ the newest techniques allowing us to offer advancement opportunities in a continually growing Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) landscape.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Wage: $17.00 per hour

Position Summary: The Estimator works closely with the internal quoting team, sales, and customer service to evaluate relative costs or potential risks and conclude project timelines and budget that the client needs. Additionally, perform mathematical calculations and obtain quotes from vendors to estimate the costs needed for labor and materials. The process includes reevaluating project needs throughout the course of the project to adjust to environmental, equipment, materials, or budget evaluations.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project scope: Review customer blueprints, drawings, and specifications to understand all project requirements. Understand the internal business structure to ensure the right facility is on track for completing projects.
  • Calculate costs: Determine the costs of materials, labor, equipment, and other resources needed for the project. Update customer price lists. Setup parts and kits.
  • Create documents: Prepare detailed, accurate estimates and proposals for clients and senior management.
  • Monitor project costs: track project expenses against the initial forecast to ensure the project stays within budget.
  • Assess risks: Evaluate potential risks and consider health and safety requirements as part of the cost analysis.
  • The description of responsibilities is not exhaustive. There will be additional duties assigned per company, customer, and regulatory requirements.

Competencies (Skills and Qualifications):

  • Critical thinking and problem solving: The ability to analyze complex information and identify potential cost-affecting factors. Focus on solutions, prioritize and manage the workload.
  • Mathematical skills: Strong aptitude for calculations and financial analysis.
  • Communication and collaboration skills: Work effectively with internal teams (engineers, sales, customer service, production, etc.)
  • Attention to detail: The ability to meticulously review plans and data to ensure all costs are accounted for.
  • Technical proficiency: This position requires knowledge of specific software or the learning of software for bidding and cost analysis, such as Microsoft Excel and Epicor.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of equivalent skill application in estimating and analyzing industrial manufacturing projects is a plus.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis is preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to type 35+ wpm

Work Environment:

  • At any one of the Value Added Companies (VAC), the environment can be associated with manufacturing, office, retail, and laboratory.
  • The manufacturing environment and laboratory requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by each facility. PPE could include eye protection, face shield, gloves, masks, and closed toed shoes. The manufacturing environment is not always climate controlled and may become warm in the summer and cooler in the winter.
  • The office and retail spaces are climate controlled by the season and location of the facility.
