POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Sports Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Youth Sports Official I is responsible for officiating excellent and safe youth programs for YMCA members and program participants in sports programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensure the sport and YMCA rules are followed.
- Ensures the gym(s) are ready for games with physical setting and equipment.
- Communicates and enforces sports rules effectively while providing leadership during all games according to the YMCA policy.
- Maintains cleanliness of the gym area.
- Sets up and tear down all equipment needed for play prior to start up time.
- Builds relationships with members and program participants.
- Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing any rules, policies, and guidelines at participants' comprehension level.
- Ensures safety by checking for hazardous conditions and making sure all safety equipment is properly placed and in proper working condition.
- Follows all sports program rules, dress code, policies, and guidelines.
- Creates an atmosphere based on fair play and incorporates it in a demonstrative and professional manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 14 years of age or older.
- Must have a willingness to complete: Child Abuse Prevention training, Basic Life Support; First Aid; and New Staff Orientation.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Six months or more of related sports and/or officiating experience preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
- Assist with implementing rules and regulations of all youth sports programs.
