What is UX Content?

UX Content refers to the text and messaging that guides users through a digital product or service, enhancing their experience and helping them accomplish tasks. UX content includes microcopy such as button labels, error messages, onboarding instructions, tooltips, and any text that appears as part of the user interface. The goal is to make interactions clear, helpful, and aligned with user needs, while maintaining the brand voice. UX content professionals collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and developers to ensure that content supports usability and accessibility.

How does a UX Content Specialist typically collaborate with designers and developers during a project?

As a UX Content Specialist, you’ll work closely with designers to ensure that language and visuals align seamlessly, creating intuitive and user-friendly experiences. Collaboration often involves participating in design sprints, reviewing wireframes, and providing content recommendations that clarify user flows. You’ll also partner with developers to ensure your content is implemented accurately, sometimes adapting copy to fit technical constraints. Clear communication and flexibility are key, as you’ll be balancing user needs, brand voice, and technical feasibility throughout the project.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a UX Content professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a UX Content professional, you need strong writing and editing abilities, an understanding of user experience principles, and typically a degree in communications, English, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), wireframing tools, and UX research methods is often required. Excellent collaboration, empathy, and attention to detail are crucial soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills ensure clear, user-centered messaging that enhances product usability and satisfaction.

100% Remote within United States
6+ month project

We are seeking a delivery-focused UX Content Writer for a 6+ month contract. In this role, you will be responsible for executing end-to-end product messaging across user flows. You will ensure that all user-facing content, from primary actions to edge cases and error states is complete, consistent, and ready for production.
Working within established content strategy and design system guidelines, you will write, document, and deliver UX content across features and products, with a strong emphasis on completeness, clarity, and usability. This role requires close partnership with UX designers, product teams, and stakeholders to ensure all messaging needs are identified, written, and implemented within defined sprint timelines.
End-to-End UX Writing & Flow Completion:
  • Write UX content for complete user journeys, including primary flows, edge cases, empty states, and error/validation messaging.
  • Ensure all flows are fully resolved from start to finish, with no missing or undefined messaging.
  • Deliver production-ready content within planned sprint cycles.
  • Maintain alignment with design system standards and content guidelines.

Error & System Messaging Ownership:
  • Own the creation of error states, validation messages, and system feedback content.
  • Ensure messaging clearly communicates: What happened, Why it happened (when appropriate), and What the user should do next.
  • Collaborate with UX designers to review and refine error flows.
  • Support content strategist review and sign-off to ensure consistency and quality.

Cross-Product Content Coverage:
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering teams to ensure all messaging needs are identified early.
  • Proactively identify gaps in messaging across products, features, or flows.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging across multiple products or surfaces.
  • Adapt content appropriately while maintaining shared terminology and tone.

Documentation & Handoff:
  • Document UX content clearly for design specifications, developer handoff, and future reuse/iteration.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of flow-level content, error states/variations, and messaging patterns.
  • Ensure content is easily understandable and implementable by cross-functional partners.

Collaboration & Process Integration:
  • Partner under the direction of the UX Designer alongside Product Managers (requirements and scope) and Engineers (implementation feasibility).
  • Participate actively in sprint ceremonies and planning sessions.
  • Manage workload to meet delivery expectations across concurrent projects.

Benefits:
  • 401(k).
  • Dental insurance.
  • Health insurance.
  • Health savings account.
  • Life insurance.
  • Vision insurance.
