Job description

It is the primary responsibility of the Utility Porter to maintain the cleanliness and overall appearance of the property, both indoors and outdoors, while supporting a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and team members. Responsibilities include maintaining various floor surfaces, operating heavy-duty cleaning equipment, handling waste removal, and supporting departmental operational needs. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and property policies, practices, procedures, and service standards.

This is a union position and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Specific Job Functions

  • Clean, polish, and maintain marble, tile, carpet, and other floor surfaces using approved techniques and equipment
  • Scrub, buff, strip, wax, and extract carpets and flooring using industrial cleaning machinery
  • Dust and clean high-access areas including slot machine tops, chandeliers, ceiling vents, fixtures, and wall dรฉcor using proper safety equipment
  • Operate ride-on vacuums, street sweepers, genie lifts, extraction machines, and other related heavy equipment safely and efficiently
  • Transport equipment, supplies, and materials using hand trucks, flatbed carts, and other approved equipment
  • Move furniture and equipment as needed to ensure proper cleaning of assigned areas
  • Empty trash receptacles and transport waste to designated disposal areas
  • Properly handle, store, use, and dispose of cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety guidelines and OSHA standards
  • Maintain cleanliness in high-traffic guest and back-of-house areas throughout the property
  • Respond professionally and courteously to guest and team member requests when encountered during assigned duties
  • Follow all safety procedures and immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, or equipment issues to leadership
  • Maintain a valid driverโ€™s license and operate company vehicles or equipment as assigned
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum six (6) months experience as a porter, utility porter, custodian, janitorial worker, or similar cleaning position required
  • Previous experience in a large hotel, casino, resort, or high-volume facility preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year experience operating commercial cleaning, buffing, extraction, or floor care equipment required
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with an acceptable driving record required
  • Ability to safely operate heavy cleaning equipment and machinery
  • Strong understanding of cleaning chemicals, equipment safety, and proper floor care procedures preferred
  • Ability to work independently and in fast-paced, high-traffic environments
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and work extended shifts in indoor and outdoor environments

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during scheduled shifts
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach overhead frequently throughout the shift
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty cleaning machinery and motorized equipment safely
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying temperatures, dust, noise, and cleaning chemicals
