Title: Accountant / Accounting Analyst (Utility Accounting Progression)

About the Role

Join our Utility Accounting team and play a key role in supporting regulatory accounting and financial reporting for a regulated utility environment. This position is part of a career progression track that allows you to grow from entry-level Accountant to senior and lead roles based on your performance, contributions, and expertise.

You will contribute to core accounting operations including financial reporting, regulatory filings, forecasting, and audit support, while partnering across the business to ensure compliance and accuracy.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities increase in complexity based on level but may include:

  • Prepare and review journal entries
  • Reconcile and maintain general ledger accounts
  • Perform account analysis and research variances
  • Support month-end close processes
  • Prepare and review regulatory filings (FERC, EIA, FPSC)
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Support audits and rate case data requests
  • Develop ad hoc reports and participate in special projects
  • (Advanced levels) Lead processes, review work, and mentor team members
  • (Lead level) Provide guidance, training, and oversight to accounting staff
What You'll Need Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution
  • OR Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Experience (Based on Level)
  • Accountant I: 0-1+ years (utility experience preferred)
  • Accounting Analyst: 2+ years of accounting experience
  • Senior Accounting Analyst: 5+ years of experience
  • Accounting Lead: 5+ years plus leadership experience and at least 1 year at a senior level

Utility or regulated accounting experience preferred at all levels.

Certifications (Preferred)
  • CPA strongly preferred for advanced levels
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP (FERC knowledge for senior roles)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (higher levels)
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
  • Demonstrated initiative and process improvement mindset
