Description

Manages the cash management, accounts receivable, treasury activities, and internal audit for Buckeye Power, Inc. (Buckeye), Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (OREC), Cardinal Operating Company (Cardinal), and other related corporations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the daily cash management. Manages short-term borrowing or investment of corporate funds in accordance with case needs.
  • Maintains corporations' bank accounts. Maintains positive pay and other security measures.
  • Manages the accounts receivable function as well as supervising the accounts receivable position.
  • Issues checks/ACHs for all corporations. Maintains company credit cards and petty cash; prepares bank deposits.
  • Responsible for the Accounting and Finance information systems. Make recommendations for and implement system enhancements, as needed.
  • Assists with the Wholesale Prepayment of Power Bill program with participating members. Prepares calculation of interest on amounts invested and prepares monthly statements to members, issues monthly statements to members.
  • Calculates and records monthly interest expense for all corporations. Prepares the quarterly consolidated debt roll-forward schedule. Prepares interest expense budget for all corporations.
  • Manages the internal audit function as well as supervising personnel performing this work.
  • Prepares worksheets and intercompany invoices relating to the proper allocation of common costs through the general office/end of the month billing and the office complex billing.
  • Maintains the lease schedule for Right of Use Assets and Liabilities, and footnote disclosure.
  • Files annual unclaimed funds reports to the state of Ohio for all corporations.
  • Prepares schedules, analysis, answers audit inquiries and provides recommendations as necessary during the annual audits.
  • Ensures adequate backup for position by training appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.

Experience:

  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting experience desired.
  • Public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have a working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Relevant education over that described above may be substituted for part of the experience requirement.

Abilities & Skills:

  • Must be able to apply accounting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of utility accounting, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Uniform System of Accounts of the Rural Utilities Service is preferred.
  • Must be able to organize work and set priorities.
  • Must be proficient in appropriate office support software and applications, including, but not limited to Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have discretion of confidential data and information.
  • Highly motivated and action-oriented individuals.

Physical Requirements

Frequent: Sedentary work, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, close visual acuity, work with a computer, keyboard, communicate with others.

Periodic: Lift objects of nominal weight.

Work Environment

Occasional travel out-of-office is required. Work outside normal business hours is required when needed
