About the position

The person in this role is a senior-level engineer responsible for leading design and technical analysis for site development, transportation, drainage, and utility projects. This position collaborates with Project Managers to develop project schedules and manage key tasks such as site layouts, grading, stormwater management, and infrastructure design. The engineer ensures compliance with regulatory standards, prepares engineering drawings and reports, and provides technical assessments through field visits. Additionally, the role involves client and agency coordination, permit application oversight, and quality control reviews. Project Engineer III also serves as a mentor to junior engineers and CAD technicians, offering technical guidance and leadership. Strong expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology modeling software is essential, along with excellent project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Essential functions:

  • Lead engineering design and technical analysis for site development, transportation, drainage, and utility projects.

  • Work with the Project Manager to develop project schedules and deliverable timelines.

  • Manage project tasks including site layouts, grading, stormwater management, erosion control, and infrastructure design.

  • Attend meetings and public hearings as required.

  • Prepare and oversee the development of engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations/reports.

  • Ensure project compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry and quality control standards.

  • Develop design concepts and perform engineering analysis to determine the type of improvements and permits needed.

  • Conduct field visits and site investigations, providing technical assessments and solutions.

  • Assist in project management tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Act as a additional point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies, maintaining strong professional relationships.

  • Prepare, review, and oversee permit applications and approvals.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers (Levels 1 and 2) and CAD technicians.

  • Support quality control processes by reviewing designs and calculations for accuracy and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D software.

  • 4-6 years of experience in Land Development Civil Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer License or Engineer Intern Certification is preferred.

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field is preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles, standards, and best practices.

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, hydrology modeling (Hydroflow, SSA, HydroCAD).

  • Project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to develop efficient and cost-effective engineering solutions.

  • Effective communication skills for client meetings, stakeholder coordination, and report writing.

  • Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers, providing technical oversight and career development support.

  • Experience with regulatory compliance, permitting, and agency coordination.
