Job description

Job Title: Speech Writer

Do you enjoy working with top-level leadership, drafting their remarks for their public engagements, and ensuring their communications are professional and on topic? FWI is searching for candidates with a keen attention to detail to support the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) Commander's public engagements. As a Speech Writer, you will provide executive-level communication support, to include keynote addresses, journal articles, remarks, talking points, and toasts.

Work Schedule and Location:

On-Site: This full-time on-site position will work Monday through Friday, 7:30AM CT to 4:30PM CT at Offutt Air Force Base.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare up to 60-minute speeches for USSTRATCOM Senior Leadership, including conducting research of the event and determine background information on location, attendees, and focus of event
  • Provide an abstract, an outline, and background information for senior leader review and comment
  • Interview senior leader for direction of speech prior to event
  • Prepare and draft articles that will be published in local, national (including federal), or international periodicals such as professional journals, newspapers, magazines, or newsletters
  • Prepare remarks, talking points, and toasts for USSTRATCOM Senior Leadership, 5-10 minutes in length
  • Maintain an indexed archive file of all written speeches, articles, remarks, talking points, toasts, abstracts, and reference material and coordinate their public release with USSTRATCOM Public Affairs Office staff
Qualifications

Required:

  • Required at minimum a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, journalism, communications, history, or political science
  • At least six (6) years' experience
  • Active Secret Clearance

Desired:

  • Preferred ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in speechwriting expertise at a senior level (elected officials, corporate leaders, General / Flag officers, appointed national leaders)
