Job description

Part Time Days and Weekends
Instructors will provide quality ski/snowboard instruction to groups and individuals in a safe and fun manner while adhering to "Your Responsibility Code," upholding the highest levels of guest safety and service on varied terrain in demanding winter weather.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Clearly and accurately instruct multiple levels of skiing/snowboarding to students with varying skill levels, and ages, utilizing various styles of instruction.
  • Ensure that students are matched to appropriate skill level groups and work with supervisors to make changes as appropriate.
  • Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional teaching methods, group handling and creativity.
  • Assist in operational responsibilities of Ski & Ride programs including but not limited to registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting sources, lesson meeting place, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Attend required meetings.
  • Be able to discuss the lesson content and evaluate the progress of the guest, and communicate with the guest's parent/guardian when appropriate.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on weather conditions, terrain, temperatures and other factors.
  • Achieve and maintain a high level of guest service skills and experience.
  • Achieve and maintain knowledge and awareness of the environment.
  • Assist guests with transportation of equipment when appropriate.
  • Assist guests with loading and unloading from uphill transportation.
  • Communicate instructions and help guests to their feet during a lesson when appropriate.
  • Arrive to work on time and prepared for all assigned duties.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and other departments to create safety and security along with a positive experience for the guests.
  • Supervise children in class at all times; assist at lunch & snack times; assist with safe return of children to identified guardian.
  • Must adhere to Catamount's employment policies.
  • Maintain an even and pleasant temperament when dealing with all Catamount guests regardless of their age.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality
  • Attend minimum required training sessions throughout the winter season.
  • Confirm guests have purchased a lift ticket at the beginning of the lesson.
  • Must possess and maintain contemporary equipment, including a Snow Sports specific helmet.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the Snowsports Director and Managers.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Intermediate or above skier/snowboarder (comfortable skiing on blue trails).
  • Possess excellent communication skills/able to communicate effectively to groups and individuals as assigned.
  • Must work well in a team.
  • Must be at least 14 years of age prior to starting and pass a criminal background check through company screening - Pro-screen.
  • Must be able and willing to work long and irregular hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Previous ski/snowboard instruction experience preferred.
  • PSIA/AASI/USSA certification preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children & school groups preferred.
Physical & Communication Experience
  • Frequent verbal and written communication.
  • Good physical condition including flexibility, strength, and endurance.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs., in awkward positions on steep and slippery surfaces.
