Job description

AWS Cloud Engineer / Architect

uShip is seeking a highly motivated AWS Cloud Engineer / Architect to join our IT Services team. This role will focus on the design, implementation, security, and evolution of uShip’s cloud infrastructure, with AWS serving as the primary platform.
The ideal candidate will help drive the architecture and automation of our cloud environment while supporting modern DevOps practices, infrastructure as code, and secure platform operations. This individual will work closely with engineering, security, and IT teams to ensure uShip’s systems are scalable, resilient, and secure.
This role is best suited for someone passionate about cloud architecture, automation, and building reliable infrastructure platforms.


Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, and maintain scalable and secure cloud infrastructure primarily within AWS.
  • Architect and implement infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting secure software delivery using GitHub, GitHub Actions, and GitHub Advanced Security.
  • Implement and manage microservices and serverless architectures within AWS.
  • Design and maintain cloud networking, security controls, and IAM architectures following AWS best practices.
  • Monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure for performance, availability, and cost efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering teams to design and support reliable cloud-native applications and services.
  • Implement and maintain cloud security standards, monitoring, and incident response capabilities.
  • Support hybrid infrastructure and integrate cloud services with existing systems where required.
  • Document architecture, operational procedures, and security practices to support long-term platform reliability.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to support cloud infrastructure operations.
     
Requirements
  • AWS Certification at the Solutions Architect Associate or SysOps Administrator Associate level.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating infrastructure within AWS production environments.
  • 2+ years of experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar).
  • Experience designing and operating cloud-native architectures, including microservices and serverless platforms.
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
  • Strong understanding of AWS networking, IAM, security controls, and architecture best practices.
  • Experience administering Linux-based systems in cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with containerized workloads and orchestration platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed cloud systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small, high-impact team environment.
     
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional certification.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, ECS, or container orchestration platforms.
  • Experience implementing observability platforms (CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus, etc.).
  • Experience with multi-account AWS environments and governance frameworks.
  • Experience with Cloudflare networking, security, or edge services.
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments (Azure or GCP).
     
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
  • Experience implementing security automation, compliance frameworks, or DevSecOps practices.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML security considerations and infrastructure best practices.
  • FinOps experience, or “FinOps Foundation FinOps Certified Engineer or FinOps Certified Professional” certification would be valuable.


Location:  FULLY REMOTE or HYBRID optional team environment if local (HQ Austin, TX 78701)

Salary:  $130k - 140k base salary
