Job description

The Big Picture

As part of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team, the VDC Operations Engineer is involved in various
activities throughout the construction of a project that are essential for successful project delivery. Work
directly with the project field team to execute a wide range of virtual design and construction duties. VDC
Operations Engineer is an integral part of the operations team, supporting and championing digital
coordination and documentation. Serve as a resource to one or more projects at any given time and develop
working relationships with owners, designers, subcontractors, and internal Jacobsen team members

Your Day to Day

1. Generate and maintain high quality BIM content for project teams. Review and analyze coordination
models for spatial coordination and quality control. Provide modeling as needed to support the project
throughout construction and project closeout.
2. Identify and resolve design issues and scheduling problems with assigned project team(s), project
owner(s) and other stakeholder(s).
3. Lead project managers through spatial coordination and through coordination meetings and provide
good record keeping throughout the process.
4. Provide technical support for staff on all assigned BIM-enabled projects.
5. Support the field team with model driven scheduling and systems sequencing.
6. Provide modeling and 3D imaging for project documentation throughout construction
7. Create topographical site surveys and other digital site logistical surveys and plans
8. Involvement in 4D scheduling
9. Assist in research and analysis of new VDC tools to be used throughout the VCD department
10. Train project management and field personnel to navigate and operate BIM software i.e. Navisworks,
BIM360 Glue, etc.
11. Assist with analyzing and mitigating site specific risk. Use modeling and digital media to minimize
identified risk to a project.
12. Work with VDC Manager to develop VDC workflows and implementing standards Jacobsen
13. Maintain knowledge of industry trends in VDC techniques and procedures.
14. Attend and participate at industry events promoting VDC technology.
15. Perform all other duties as assigned.

using digital production tools
3. Working effectively with owners, architects, Jacobsen's management team, subcontractors and selfperform work
4. Demonstrating strong ability to plan and accomplish goals
5. Demonstrating effective use of project management software
6. Coaching and mentoring project team members in using BIM software and tools

7. Supporting the VDC Manager with mentoring other VCD members and establishing BIM related protocols
and procedures.
8. Using current and emerging VDC technology (such as sUAS, 360 photo documentation, laser scanning,
point layout, lift drawings and augmented and virtual reality to support project teams through the
project life-cycle
9. Providing user support on VDC software and systems for team members to facilitate collaboration and
efficient workflow on assigned projects
