Jobs at USATF can range from administrative and coaching roles to event management and marketing positions. Employees work to support athletes, organize competitions, and promote the sport nationwide.

What does a USATF-certified coach or official do?

A USATF-certified coach or official typically manages athlete training sessions, enforces competition rules, and oversees event logistics to ensure compliance with USATF standards. Coaches will develop training plans, monitor athlete progress, and provide technique feedback, while officials focus on race management, timing, and resolving on-field issues. Collaboration with athletes, support staff, and other officials is integral to maintaining a productive and positive athletic environment. This role may also involve attending meetings, maintaining records, and participating in professional development to stay updated on rule changes and best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the USATF position?

To thrive in a USATF (USA Track & Field) certified coaching or official role, you need deep knowledge of track and field events, rules, and athlete development, often supported by USATF coaching or officiating certifications. Familiarity with performance-tracking software, timing systems, and safety protocols is crucial. Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills are essential for motivating athletes and collaborating with staff. These qualifications ensure safe, fair competitions and support athlete growth to meet organizational and competitive standards.

How do I get into USATF?

To get involved with USATF, you can apply for employment or volunteer opportunities through their official website, which often requires submitting a resume and completing an application form. Relevant skills include knowledge of athletics, event management, or coaching, and some positions may require certifications or background checks. Staying informed about job postings and networking within the athletics community can also improve your chances.
