The Impact You'll Make in this Role

The person hired for the position of USAC Area Portfolio Manager will provide portfolio management across product lifecycle management, pricing, positioning, NPI, commercial execution, customer VOC/insights, and marketing programs. They will have overall responsibility for the financial success of the portfolio in USAC and will adopt a customer-driven focus and approach.

As a USAC Area Portfolio Manager for the Coated Abrasives portfolio, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leading VOC/VOM efforts to identify opportunities based on customer insights to drive growth through enhanced positioning, new product introduction, and marketing programs.
  • Improve Area-based product lifecycle management and driving and executing portfolio strategies and tactics across the pyramid, based on understanding key segments and applications across both product and customer life cycles.
  • Lead new product introductions within USAC by working with global portfolio, activation marketing, segment marketing, sales, and application engineering to achieve NPI sales targets.
  • Develop and implement pricing and positioning strategies and tactics in line with business goals. Ensure strategies and tactics are grounded in customer insights and help deliver greater total value articulation.
  • Provide significant contribution to marketing planning and execution. Utilize customer, channel, and market expertise to develop and execute tactics to achieve sales targets.
  • Evaluate and monitor the success of the portfolio on a monthly basis and help drive improved insight into action on the critical action pillars and/or revised actions.
  • Responsible for special pricing management and requests for product line.
  • Prioritize and process area-based SKU set-up/line extension requests.
  • Collaborate with the marketing center, activation marketing, segment marketing, global portfolio marketing, application engineering, customer service, and the ASD sales team in advancing the portfolio and ASD's business.
  • Display strong presentation skills and creativity in training and motivating both internal 3M and external partners in both live and virtual formats.
  • Help drive the identification, prioritization, and selection of target customers by using segmentation and other market prioritization tools and techniques.
  • An agile and strategic thinker who connects end-to-end business practices to advance ASD's business.

Your Skills and Expertise

We are seeking an individual with strong leadership skills who is comfortable working within a matrix organization with an appropriate entrepreneurial attitude of taking the business to a new level by identifying and communicating opportunities, translating into concrete, realistic, and relevant action plans which they will help execute and manage through to completion. The individual must be a team-player, customer-centric, analytical, results oriented, and able to navigate complex situations and organizational challenges. Flexibility, urgency, and managing ambiguity in response to multiple priorities will be critical.

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Five (5) years of combined experience marketing or sales in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • MBA or equivalent.
  • Five (5) or more years of marketing and/or sales experience in abrasives and/or industrial markets.

Work location:

  • This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN

Travel: May include up to 25% travel in US and Canada
