Job description

The MT/MLT Extern is responsible for assisting the Lab Assistant and/or MT or MLT in daily lab functions. This position works under the direct supervision of a Lab Assistant and/or the MT or MLT. Assists Laboratory personnel with specimen storage, keeping the specimen storage area clean, and may be cross-trained to perform basic Lab Assistant duties. Responsible for various support and clerical activities. This position is also a learning position in which the encumbent will be able to shadow alongside certified staff to better prepare them for employment with URMC as a certified MT or MLT.
Education Requirements:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
Associates Degree OR Bachelors Degree, depending on certification level, in Medical Lab Technology or related field. (MUST be
Certification eligible)
Licenses, Certifications, ETC:
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists
(ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Associations of Bioanalysis) or equivalent obtained within six months of
date of hire.
