How much do uranium jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 18, 2026, the average hourly pay for uranium in the United States is $26.34, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.14 and $30.77 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a uranium miner?

Uranium miners are workers who extract uranium ore from underground or open-pit mines. Uranium is a naturally occurring radioactive element used primarily as fuel for nuclear power plants. Miners use specialized equipment and follow strict safety protocols to protect themselves from radiation exposure. Their work is essential in supplying the raw material for nuclear energy production and, occasionally, for medical and military applications.

What are some common safety protocols for professionals working with uranium in a laboratory or industrial setting?

Professionals working with uranium must adhere to strict safety protocols to minimize exposure to radiation and prevent contamination. This typically includes wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, lab coats, and sometimes respirators, as well as working in well-ventilated areas with appropriate shielding. Regular monitoring for radiation levels, proper handling and storage of uranium materials, and thorough training in emergency procedures are essential. Team members often collaborate closely with health physicists and safety officers to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a uranium mining engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Uranium Mining Engineer, you need a strong background in mining engineering, geology, and environmental science, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree and professional certification. Familiarity with mining software (like Surpac or MineSight), radiation safety protocols, and regulatory compliance systems is essential. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills for coordinating teams and ensuring safety. These skills and qualities are vital for efficiently managing uranium extraction while prioritizing environmental protection and regulatory adherence.

What is the difference between Uranium vs Nuclear Fuel Technician?

AspectUraniumNuclear Fuel Technician
Required CredentialsRadiation safety training, possibly chemistry or geology backgroundTechnical training in nuclear fuel handling, safety protocols, certifications often required
Work EnvironmentMining sites, processing plants, laboratoriesNuclear power plants, fuel fabrication facilities
Industry UsageMining, extraction, and processing of uranium oreManufacturing and handling of nuclear fuel assemblies

Uranium involves the extraction and processing of the radioactive element, while Nuclear Fuel Technicians focus on preparing and managing nuclear fuel within reactors. Both roles require safety training and operate in nuclear-related environments, but their specific tasks and focus areas differ significantly.

What jobs work with uranium?

Jobs that work with uranium include nuclear engineers, radiological safety technicians, nuclear power plant operators, and uranium miners. These roles require specialized training, safety protocols, and often certifications due to the radioactive nature of uranium and its use in energy production and research.
