Imaging centers and diagnostic labs line the US-301 corridor through White Plains, MD, a growing community in Charles County. The area sits just south of Waldorf in Southern Maryland, about thirty miles south of Washington, with US-301 running north toward the Beltway and south to La Plata. The county hospital in nearby La Plata anchors the region's referrals. Housing here runs cheaper than the closer-in DC suburbs, which has brought steady new development into St. Charles and the surrounding subdivisions. Commuter buses head into the District for travelers who would rather not drive. A new rail trail along the old rail line gives an easy walk once the day's work is done.
