Ups Manager information

What is a UPS manager?

UPS Managers are professionals who oversee the operations, staff, and processes at United Parcel Service (UPS) locations. They are responsible for ensuring packages are processed efficiently, employees are managed effectively, and customer service standards are met. Their duties often include scheduling, training, performance evaluation, and maintaining safety protocols. UPS Managers play a key role in the daily logistics and smooth functioning of delivery services. They also work to solve operational challenges and help implement company policies at their facilities.

How does a UPS manager typically collaborate with other departments to ensure efficient package delivery operations?

As a UPS Manager, effective collaboration with departments such as logistics, customer service, and warehouse operations is crucial to maintaining smooth and timely package deliveries. Managers frequently coordinate with logistics teams to optimize delivery routes, work with customer service to resolve delivery issues, and communicate with warehouse staff to ensure packages are processed and dispatched efficiently. Regular cross-department meetings, clear communication channels, and shared performance goals help foster teamwork and address challenges proactively. This collaborative environment not only supports operational efficiency but also contributes to a positive customer experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a UPS manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a UPS Manager, you need strong leadership abilities, operational management experience, and a background in logistics or supply chain, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with warehouse management systems, logistics software, and safety compliance certifications is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and team motivation skills are crucial for managing staff and ensuring efficient operations. These skills ensure effective package handling, customer satisfaction, and smooth daily operations in a fast-paced logistics environment.

    • Direct crews during shutdowns, start-ups, and urgent troubleshooting events.
    • Identify operational inefficiencies, share best practices, and develop strategies to improve crew productivity and service quality.
    • 10+ years of field service experience in power plants, utilities, or industrial power systems.
    • Strong background with high-voltage equipment, protection & control systems, and commissioning.
    • Prior leadership experience managing crews or supervising large‑scale projects.
    • Thorough knowledge of NETA standards, testing procedures, and electrical safety regulations.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams); PowerDB or similar reporting tools preferred.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to lead under pressure.
    • NETA Level II, III, or IV certification and/or PMP certification preferred
    • Class A CDL, OSHA certification, or TWIC card is a plus
    • Familiarity with transformer OEMs, power industry customers, and EPC workflows
